the 2nd best Gary Stewart cd ever!, March 1, 2008
This review is from: Battleground (Audio CD)
So the "Out of Hand / Your Place or Mine" two-fer disc is the very best Gary Stewart cd ever--obviously--but "Battleground" is pretty darn close. Gary's voice, song selection, and energy level are all very strong here, and this band can't be beat. "Bedroom Battleground" and "Nothing Cheap..." are probably my favorite tracks at this moment, unless you count "Delia" or "Let's Go Jukin'." Whatever.
Just don't expect me to name the 3rd best Gary cd ever: I've found the rest of his Hightone and RCA output to be extremely disappointing, usually due to shortcomings in Gary's voice, song selection, or energy level.
As for "Battleground," I say 4 and 1/2 stars, easy!

Underrated., March 26, 2006

This 1990 release from the king of honky tonk music didn't get nearly the credit it deserved. The title track bedroom battleground is as pure country as it gets - great song! A cheap affair is pure Gary Stewart. Woman in demand & Delia are also great tracks. Perhaps it doesn't measure up to Your place or mine, steppin' out, or even brand new - but still I would recommend it to all the other Gary junkies out there.
