This acclaimed naval historian's book tells the complete history of the battleship -- the greatest and most awe-inspiring class of ship ever built -- from its origins in the 1850s to what the author regards as the end of the era, the sinking of the Japanese battleship Yamato on April 6, 1945.

5.0 out of 5 stars historical evolution from sail, December 24, 2002
By
This review is from: Battleship (Paperback)
This one is worth the price. The book is light on pictures and
diagrams, but it makes up for it in its detail. The politics
of the evolution of the battleship is covered from the time of
sail and armourclading to the building and sinking of the Yamato.
Tactics and gun evolution and protection and speed improvements
are well explained. For me this was the book that explained why.
I found it a good supplement to my books by brown and whitley.
