4.0 out of 5 stars Another Solid Score from Jablonsky May 13, 2012
Format:MP3 Music
This album is by Steve Jablonsky, who is best known as the composer of Michael Bay's "Transformers" movies. One of the best parts of the Transformers series was the music, and the same is true of "Battleship". These types of movies are often ridiculous and over-the-top with the use of explosions and visual effects, so the music really helps the film resonate with the audience in a more real and emotional way. And although I think this score falls short of "Transformers", it is a very worthwhile purchase for fans of this type of music.

Many of the tracks are very well done and seem to be inspired by the military. Track 24, titled "Hopper", is a great example of this. Some cues seem to focus on the aliens, and they have a menacing and threatening tone that is worth a listen. Other tracks seem to be generic action/horror music, and although they may work within the film they are not as interesting as some of the other music on the album.

Here are my favorite tracks:
02. The Art of War
16. We Have a Battleship
21. Silver Star

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid! May 22, 2012
Format:MP3 Music
I haven't gotten to see the film yet, although I'm very much looking forward to doing so. That said, I bought this score on the power of Jablonsky's name and his previous work on the "Transformers" films.

This score is very, very good. I love it. Track 4, "You're Going To The Navy," the main themes in Tracks 1 and 2, "First Transmission" and "The Art of War," all of them very good. About the only drawback is that some of the tracks begin to sound a bit alike to me as you listen to it all the way straight through. Maybe it's just my impression.

However, to me, the final track, 24, "Hopper," absolutely takes the cake. There aren't many composers that can capture the bagpipes and turn them into something this insanely hair-raising. It sounds incredible, and the final notes even hark back wonderfully to Hans Zimmer's work in "Backdraft," for the funeral piece. It's incredible. Track 21, which utilizes the same theme, is also very, very good.

Overall, I do not believe that this score matches Jablonsky's work for the "Transformers" movies, particularly the final one - which I felt was the most layered and versatile of the three. Perhaps it's because I haven't seen the film yet, and have little to connect it to... But someone would have to pry this disc out of my cold, dead hands. A very solid score!

5.0 out of 5 stars Different than what I was expecting May 21, 2012
Format:Audio CD
A bunch of friends and I saw this movie together, we enjoyed it. It's certainly not a great movie, but we had fun. I might have hated it if I saw it alone :) Anyway I love Jablonsky's music for the Transformers movies, I kind of expected to hear something like that since the Battleship trailers looked like Transformers. But this music sounds different, it was a nice surprise. A lot of cool drums and weird sounds. The music when the aliens show up is out there, listening to it at home gave me the creeps. I think I'll be using some of the faster music at the gym, like Art of War and Full Attack. Rick Rubin and Jablonsky make a good team, they should do more music together.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mixed Review November 29, 2012
By James
Format:MP3 Music|Amazon Verified Purchase
If you're a fan of Steve Jablonsky from the Transformer Series, you will probably find this album 7 / 10. There are good parts, but I would recommend listening to the tracks on YouTube then buying the ones you like rather than the whole album.

3.0 out of 5 stars should have paid closer atttention July 30, 2012

While I do enjoy instrumental music, I was thinking that this Soundtrack had "ALL" of the music fromt the movie........wrong! That is my fault for assuming that it was like several other Soundtracks that I have purchased over the years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Battleship: The Original Soundtrack May 30, 2012
Format:Audio CD
When i went and saw Battleship, i left the theater going, "when will i see that again?" Battleship was a fun and epic roller-coaster that had me on the edge of my seat. But what i really loved about the movie was the score written and mainly composed by Steve Jablonsky; it was a great and interesting score for a movie of this stature. Featuring guitarist Tom Morello on two of the tracks, this sci-fi/action score will not disappoint those who like the intense and frigid tone of Battleship. I collect all the great scores, from Hans Zimmer and John Williams, to Harry Gregson-Williams and James Horner. Plus, Steve J. is a protege of Hans Zimmer! That does say something about his work (plus, his score for Gears of War 3 was Oscar-material, if game scores could make it to the Oscars). This is definitely a step up from the Transformers films, having intensity and atmospheric tones in all the tracks

These are 5 of my favorite tracks:
3. Full Attack
4. You're Going to the Navy
6. Objects Make Impact
10. Shredders
22. The Aliens

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic! July 3, 2012
Format:MP3 Music|Amazon Verified Purchase
I've been a fan of Steve Jablonsky since the Transformer days and he doesn't disappoint here. It's a big, meaty action score that's a perfect fit for the movie as well as just listening to while you work.

I love big action scores and this is a nice addition to my arsenal.
