Review

BattleSpace is the system of space combat between JumpShips, DropShips and WarShips in the 31st century. Fully compatible with FASA's BattleTech and AeroTech, this large scale ship combat game adds a new dimension to the wars of the future. FASA's BattleSpace includes a rulebook/sourcebook that provides the history of naval warfare and the statistics and descrptions of those ships currently in use in the Inner Sphere; two 22" x 34" full-color mapsheets; color counters with stands; ship record sheets; and 2 six-sided dice. BattleSpace will provide hours and hours of gaming fun for pre-teen through young adult players. -- Midwest Book Review

3.0 out of 5 stars Run-of-the-mill, overly complicated game, August 27, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Battlespace: The Battletech Game of Space Combat/Game/Boxed Set (Hardcover)
I picked this up when it first came out as an addition to a Battletech campaign series. The history and detail were good, with a handy split between basic and advanced rules, though some of the latter weren't really necessary and only detracted from game play. The main problems with this game were that the card pieces were cheap and ugly (which took away from the fun), campaign rules were sloppy and complicated, and ship statistics were far too detailed. Fasa should have streamlined the combat system for space, instead of just making the ships really big battlemechs with bigger guns. If you're looking for an addition to your Battletech universe games, check it out (some of the historical refight scenarios in the book aren't bad), but if you want a good space wargame, go for Battlefleet Gothic or Full Thrust.

4.0 out of 5 stars In the middle, October 28, 1998
This review is from: Battlespace: The Battletech Game of Space Combat/Game/Boxed Set (Hardcover)
To be honest the only reason I gave this one an extra star is because of the last review. I hope he found what he was looking for. Battlespace is usefull, if you like the full furry of masive fire power in a zero G atmosphere. Only problem with it is that there are other games of the same type that are easier to play, and clearer. If your a die hard fan, you will want it just to fill out your collection. For GM's it's handy if you want to mess with your mechwarriors while they are helpless to do anything. It is nice to work with the 3057 book. Heck you need the 3057 book to make it work. It seemed to me that FASA just through this system out to cover an area that only a few people wanted to look into. It is known that troughout the Battletech universe there are not that many warships, so most battles are fought on the ground. I have read recent books, and have heard several new rumors of new Innershere warships, and with the end of the treaty coming near, who knows. This system has room to grow, but until some things change, it won't.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice if you can use it, September 4, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Battlespace: The Battletech Game of Space Combat/Game/Boxed Set (Hardcover)
Since all gamers are looking for a way to spice up their games, Battlespace offers a great way to expand the Battletech universe. Works well if you own the 3057 Readout Dropships, Jumpships, And Warships.
