5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Model!
I bought this along with the Moebius Models Battlestar Galactica, and I have to say, the quality is excellent! Extremely durable pieces, that hold paint well. Clear and concise instructions, and awesome decals. I've never bought this brand before, so I was skeptical. But now, I'm guaranteed to buy from them again.

1.0 out of 5 stars Launch crap model!
I had high hopes for this model. As a fan of Battlestar Galactica, I've loved the look of the Mark II's from the onset. That said, maybe I just got a bad model because the left side engine cowling was warped and that appeared to be an omen of things to come. For the rest of the model it was craptastic. The instructions, while pleasing to the eye in their styling of...

The only compliant I have is, is that the decails are to tiny for the cockpit. It is next to impossible to get them perfectly centered and hard to get them to come off the papper even using there helpful hints. Because once these decals are on they're on and if one of these tiny decals folds over you are not get them unfolded. Instead of one tiny decal they could have done a strip to lay on each side of the dradis screen in the cockpit to make it easier to work with.

I had high hopes for this model. As a fan of Battlestar Galactica, I've loved the look of the Mark II's from the onset. That said, maybe I just got a bad model because the left side engine cowling was warped and that appeared to be an omen of things to come. For the rest of the model it was craptastic. The instructions, while pleasing to the eye in their styling of Colonial Fleet briefing orders, are hard to follow for painting and assembly. Once you do get the model together (it takes time but can be done) I found out that the decals are even more craptastic than the instructions. Having worked with Trumpeter, Academy, Tamiya, Revell and Monogram like many enthusiasts this Moebius has delicate, hard to maneuver, easy to tear decals. Evan the Primus decal that goes forward of the cockpit broke when placing it on the fuselage. If you are looking to waste $35 in frustration then this model is for you. If you desperately want a Mark II then wait for the second version to come out.

This is the old style Viper from the 70's show. Two of the reasons I didn't watch the new show, 1-Starbuck was a woman. 2-They used bullets instead of lasers. Any society andvanced enough to have space folding technology as in the new series would have particle beam weapons not bullets.

I don't build a lot of models - maybe one or two per year, so I'm far from being a pro. However, I've been building them all my life, so I've had a decent cross-section of experiences. Every now and then, you get a model that's simply a joy to build and paint, with no surprises and everything goes smoothly from start to finish. For me, this was one of those.

The plastic is thick and sturdy, and with the exception of the fuselage, the seams follow the lines of the ship's design, meaning less (or no) puttying & sanding required. Also, the various parts of the Viper are separated in such a way that with some pre-assembly painting, your paint job is halfway done by the time everything's together.

As other's have said, the decals tear easily. I ripped the very first one I attempted to apply - the racing stripe that runs the length of the fuselage. I decided to just ditch the stripe decals, mask off the model, and paint the stripes on. The design is simple, so it was extremely easy, and a lot quicker than fumbling with the decals.

This is my first Moebius model, and it went so well that I'm now planning on getting their MkVII - a ship design I've never liked - just for the fun of it. Simply put, if you wanna build something that takes very little of your time & patience, but rewards you with a cool BSG Viper for your desk, GET THIS!

This is a great model, but again, it is not a toy. It's a pretty complicated one to paint if you're concerned about getting it just right. It's a lot of work to get all the colors in the right spots and overlapped, especially if you're trying to make it look battle damaged/aged. And getting the glossy white coat's work but it's worth it in the end.

It may be a typo, but the model is a skill level 3 (advanced), recommended for ages 15 and up, not over 5 years as indicated...
