5.0 out of 5 stars Great Game!
This game is a combined Strategy/First Person game where the A.I. does the bulk of the work and you help along. First you need a high end machine to run this game, but it is worth it. You can choose either side to play to keep things interesting. You get proficient at Air/Sea/Land battle engagements as you work through the campaigns. I went out and bought a Windows...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not loving it
I've always liked World War 2 flight sims... and I got this on the hope that it would feed that particular enjoyment with the addition of a little fun in the tactical arena where you can control ships and squadrons of planes as well.

Let me put it bluntly, the game is far too "consolized" to be truely enjoyed on a PC. It would probably be more fun on X-Box...

It would probably be more fun on X-Box. Playing it on the PC doesn't add anything to the experience, because they kept the "few buttons/simple controls" design in the PC version. If you have one of those X-box PC controllers that would work great for this game if you must have it on PC. You can absolutely configure the game to do 100% of whatever it is you need to do from start to finish on a X-box controller.

Because of the gaming console design switching between menus, commands, and other actions in the game is a pain in the rear using a keyboard and/or joy stick. Nothing seems intuitive and it feels klunky. Again, using a X-box style PC controller would make this better if you have one available.

Probably the worst part for me is that the flight controls are so rudimentary. No flaps to worry about. No landing gear to raise or lower. No ammo. No limit to bombs or torpedoes... it's 100% arcade style and no way to make it any more realistic than that.

There is some good. The graphics are very nice overall. There is also potential for some good, quick multi player fun for sure. The missions themselves are interesting and follow real battles from that time period. Ship battles are the funnest part of the game in my opinion.

So, overall, I'd say stay clear of this game for the PC and get it for your X-Box. If you don't have an X-Box, invest in an X-box controller for your PC along with this game, it would make using it's menus and functions a lot more intuitive.

I went out and bought a Windows compatible XBOX controller to help with the flying scenes. Very good graphics and well thought out scenarios.

As a strategy fanatic, I think this is one of the best games I've played. Ever since I started playing strategy games (StarCraft, WarCraft, etc.) I wondered: "What would it be like to control this unit? Or that machine?"

This game fulfills that dream. You can build and command units just like a regular RTS, and if you wanted you would never have to take control of one unit, just keep issuing orders from the map.

But why would you want to do that? Why WOULDN'T you want to control a battleship with enough power to level a city?

Although it's awesome to be able to control any of your units, from PT boats to battleships to bombers (etc., etc., etc.,), there are a couple of bugs I noticed.

One is if your ship takes a lot of damage and you survive, you can "repair" your ship back to full health. However, once I did that and noticed the front left QUARTER of my battleship was blown away and I could see straight down through the ship. It's not a serious bug, but I found it amusing to be sailing a ship that was defying the laws of physics by still floating like nothing was wrong.

Another problem is that I very rarely find any opponents online. This, I believe, is because I'm using a public Wi-Fi router and the connection is either too bogged down, or the NAT settings are blocking my access to the main servers. (I'm living in a college Dorm, you see)

All in all, I am VERY satisfied with this game. I love blowing things up, and getting it here for $30 was a lot better than Steam's price of $50.

Excellent program for the gamer / historian alike. Many of the missions are loosely based upon actual historical events which give the player a very nice feel of realism. Graphics are extremely well done and one can almost feel the sea spray in their face when shots land close to the ship!

Pre-ordered this for my two sons in Jan for the May PC version release.

Loaded it on the same machine (AMD) that already has BattleStatios Midway - locks up in 5 minutes of play
- Checked activex, drivers, etc, etc. No luck.
- Changed out audio cards. No luck.
- Disabled Antivirus, etc. No luck.
- Applied the patch (only avail thru Windows Live). No luck.

Loaded it on a powerful laptop (INTEL), same problem.

Loaded it on a second, powerful lapto (INTEL). same problem.

Discussion boards full of people with similar problems. No credible response from Eidos besides check your audio card for Active x compatibility.

Was very patient but became very frustrated. Gave up. Hopefully some patch or explanation will come along for all the people stuck with an unusable game.

those who thought this was a flight sim and bought it, I will say this: shame on you, lol! for those gamers that like Battlefield and the likeness, imagine that but instead with an entire ship, submarine, Carrier, or airplane/squadron as your weapons, with autonomous control of your faction, and that you can go between anyone of these, like Battlefield 2. this game has a god variety of game play and runs great, but falls short in the fact that this is a game that requires a good internet connection for good internet play, and 2 actually good compies or more, which is hard now a days. its fun, not that fast, but more for those who are into slower combat that looks crazy: one of my favorite situations is being a bomber squadron getting attacked by 4 destroyers or cruisers: it looks crazy!!! if you like fast arcade action, don't buy this; its speed would be like playing Starcraft on normal or fast speed. one thing that I was really disappointed though was that there was no Kamikaze aircraft, which really did not help reflect the culture the Japanese had developed up to that point in history. also the speed does not suit the arcade style player: it is meant for the historically accurate fighter. I would beware the Battlefield players who play mods: not good for the people who run and gun, the style is more RTS/TPS, and a lot of sailing then engagement that takes more strategy than fighting, or rather tactics; like how to avoid enemy fire from a battleship, how to bomb a moving ship safely, how to avoid torpedoes, how and when to attack a surface ship with a submarine without dying, how to invade an enemy land base, how to use depth charges...

5/5 for good production/control of the game, and look, minus one for the some of the game mechanics and speed for the arcade gamer side of people (no QUICK play)

This game is really good. But it would be alot better if the player had command of all Japanese forces in the area of play. At Midway Japan deployed four carriers but the game only has two at the battle.

Decent Game. Graphics could be a lot better in this age, but seems fun enough. Paid full price...wish I didn't because after playing for about 1 hour, I got bored. Still trying to peak my interest since I spent 50+ dollars on it. If you can wait and rent it before you buy you will be happier. Back to playing Halflife and Eve.

Battlestations Pacific PC video game allows you to command Ships, Submarines, Airplanes with a variety of modes. My favorite mode is island capture where you have money to buy boats and planes and capture command centers on islands as the computer competes against you. Some ships are Battleships, Landing ships, Submarines, Aircraft carriers that launch airplanes. B24s, Superfortresses, Mustangs, Helldivers, and more... THIS IS a must have game for gamers. 8/10
