Great Game,

Battlestations: Pacific is way better then it's older brother, Battlestations: Midway, with new Planes, new Ships and Better Graphics. In single player mode, you can play as the Americans and relive history, from the Solomon Islands, to Leyte, to Okinawa. or play as the Japanese and rewrite history, fighting "What if" battles. The mulitplayer is great, and if you don't have many skill playing in it, you can sharpen your skills in training and skirmish. all in all, it's a great game that can be played over and over without being boring.

If you enjoy constructing a plan of attack with your teammates and rapidly adapting once the shells start flying, you will enjoy this game. If you think the Call of Duty Modern Warfare series is the best thing ever, you will probably hate the pace of this game.
Having played Battlestations Midway, I was very pleased with the improvements to this franchise. The graphical detail and sounds are significantly improved and seem very realistic. The sheer number of units you can control (ships, subs, planes, bases) combined with multiple view points make this game the best WWII RTS/FPS combination on Xbox 360. There is a definite learning curve for the controls and unit strengths/weakness, but once you master them, the game is very fun. Many of the negative reviews that complain about the game being dull or lacking excitement are way off base. 8 player online matches are anything but dull with dozens of ships battling for bases while squadrons of planes fight overhead. (If your idea of an exciting game is being killed 17 times in 3 minutes, then stick to MW2.) I would have given this game 5 stars if it wasn't for the multiplayer system. The lobby system doesn't provide much information about other players beyond the host's drop rate. Seeing the player's win-loss record would be very helpful when playing with random people. Another multiplayer issue is the lack of a kicking mechanism once the game begins. (All games should be required to include a kick feature to deal with the thousands of pre-teen trolls that inhabit Xbox Live.) Looking forward to what Eidos comes up with for a sequel...

I had Battlestations midway and I enjoyed the campaign but by the time I bought it there was not really anyone playing online. Battlestations pacific solved this by adding a skirmish mode to the single player. However, there still is online multiplayer which is very fun. Overall it is a good game with good graphics. It is also pretty realistic.

I first tried out the demo for this game over Xbox Live and found myself captivated by it. I have since bought the full retail version and after 2 years I still find myself putting this one into my Xbox to enjoy the Skirmish Mode or the occasional campaign mission. I have since tried out its predecessor, Midway...but found it lacking overall in polish and in its user interface. If you are looking for a good action RTS on the consoles, BS Pacific is the way to go.

Ive played through both games now. Pacfici is more in depth, detailed and more user friendly than Midway was. This game has more ships, boats and planes than Midway thought of having.
There are also more people who play online than Midway. The DLC is well worth the extra bonus units and maps.

This is my favorite game on XBOX. Yes, I play many, but I come back to this as my home base for a good multiplayer challenge. While it's not perfect, (and I wish they would work on a sequel -- doubtful since Edios Hungry no longer exists) the game is incredibly unique and can allow for hours of relatively unique gameplay in multiplayer mode.
One element I really enjoy is the pace. The game can be a quick one or a really challenging one. Too many games have blitz strategy advantages that sap the enjoyment out of a real strategic battle to capture and control points on a scaled map. The fact that you can go to the individual unit level (such as a pilot of a fighter) or be the captain of a battleship is really interesting. Team gameplay adds further enjoyment to achieve goals by coordinating efforts. Additionally, as much as one wishes they could play for 12 hour marathons, the truth is that I like that I can play a game or two for a controlled period of time and not get sucked into a game like Oblivion that never really ends. I agree with others that the multiplayer control menu has a poor design, and there are a few minor bugs or units that may have too much effectiveness and tip the scales towards on side or the other. In general, this game remains my favorite XBOX game yet. I'll see you on the battlefield!

This game loses its gaming history on a regular basis returning you to rank 1 with no unlocks. This has happened to me twice and to numerous others that I have played Battlestations: Pacific with online. I have never had this problem with any other game. It is incredibly frustrating to have put a lot of time and effort into ranking up only to have it lost (It is also very tough to compete online without the unlocks). The game itself is good, but I am done with it and Eidos won't even address the issue with XBox.

Where to begin?,

Where should I begin.... Having finished the game I can truthfully tell everything about this game.
Since this is a 'teen' game, I was able to buy it myself. (I'm only 15.) This is a WWII game in which you take both the sides of the American forces and the Japanese empire's. You can change how the battle went by either winning or losing the fight you have just done. For example, in a mission in which the Japanese won you might play as the Japanese and lose or play as the Americans and win or still lose. This game is on the way to the next-gen software, which allows for many changes in the game, like in GTA4. Finally most new games are catching up to GTA4's aura of uniqueness in real time strategy. Mop-up: Buy-yes Rent before-Optional Replay value-9/10 LIVE-8.5/10 |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| In short, I would give this game 5/5, or 9.5/10. In my mindset, not much can be improved, but the storyline can be tweaked slightly to the better. EDIT: The controls have begun to be more noticably sticky, and the campaign is not making such sense. Although it is WWII, you get transported to random places the whole game. If I could I would lower this game to 4 stars. The game's first run-thru seemed nice, smooth, and easy, but later, when it became more complex, I didn't like the controls anymore. Sorry! |
