3.0 out of 5 stars An insight into how Warrior Houses work
I've always thought Sun-Tzu Liao was over-demonized in the Stackpole trilogy. He is after all, burdened with an asylum for a creche. I'm glad that in this novel, along with Highlander Gambit, and the one with Avanti's Angel, we get to see a portrait of a true survivor. For me Aris Sung was just too typical a Battletech hero, too dimensional. But the brief appearance of...

2.0 out of 5 stars Better Btech Books Out There, April 17, 2000
This review is from: Battletech 32: Binding Force (Paperback)
The mech combat in the book was good, which is the only reason that I didn't give it one star.

After churning thru the pages between combat, I thought "What have I read here? Nothing but filler!" There was hardly any interesting things outside the combat.

And the ending was so rushed, I thought my head was going to spin off. After cruising leasurely throught the story line at about 20mph, it kicks in the boosters and jerks you back awake. The whole story resolved in less then 20 pages.

If only the rest of the book had been that fast paced.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding read! Possibly the best one I've read., August 5, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Battletech 32: Binding Force (Paperback)
Recommended by a friend, this book was my introduction to this series of novels. I'd always avoided game-based novels in the past, fearful that they would dissapoint. This book delivers the goods; a brilliant, well-written storyline, game-accurate action and great characters. I'll be reading more books from this series...especially from this Author.

This review is from: Battletech 32: Binding Force (Paperback)
This sci-fi novel has it all, a wicked plot, betrayal, revenge, and flair. It's a great entry point into the world of Battletech and the 12 meter tall walking 'Mechs that rule the battlefield in this futuristic look at what lies ahead for man in the wars of tomorrow. You'll want to pick up the next book right away!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Battletech book, best I've read....., July 27, 1998

This review is from: Battletech 32: Binding Force (Paperback)
Excellent, self-contained saga for those interested in battletech lore, yet meshes well with overall storyline/history. I particularly enjoyed the technical side of the book, well thought out and executed. Several aspects of hidden humor, see if you can find them....very engaging.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best Battletech books I've ever read., May 26, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Battletech 32: Binding Force (Paperback)
All of the characters in this book were well thought out, and actually developed during the book, instead of being the same boring people. The combat scenes were well written, creating an interest in the battle. Binding Force was one of the few Battletech books, besides Michael A. Stackpole's, that managed to combine politics, a good storyline, and battle into one package.

4.0 out of 5 stars A little forced, February 2, 2000
This review is from: Battletech 32: Binding Force (Paperback)
The fights are great, specially the first one with the Hachetman. They show what a mech can really do. The customs, characters and worlds are well developed, but I didn't like two things about the book: 1. Aris Sung fall for every trap put in his way. You know, when you are entering a battle, you have to be prepared for everything, and the Hiritsu warriors were not. A little too naive from their part. 2. Two times in the book, Aris and Terry climbed to the cockpit of an enemy Mech. One time just scared the pilot, the second time the cockpit is destroy by a bomb. Dont you think that is a little too easy? If that was the case, any infantry could destroy mech and then what would be the purpose of those enormoues mahcines? But the rest of the book is great, an easy to follow history, to help you understand what it means to be a Mechwarrior loyal to a honor-bound house.
