4.0 out of 5 stars When Gladiators Come Calling, May 8, 2000

This was a very entertaining book. Though it makes no massive changes to the Battletech universe, sometimes it is better to see small scale combat over a larger one. And you can even construe this combat to the larger scale because Solaris IS the Inner Sphere in miniature. Great combat scenes, interesting characters, and good writing all combine to make this book a winner. A far better novel than Dagger Point. The only thing keeping it from 5 stars is some technical errors and editing problems.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful read, February 6, 2001

Being a great fan of the BattleTech Universe, I was hoping for a book that would grip my imagination enough to prevent me from putting it down. This book does just that. Coleman doesn't simply slap the storyline and facts down for you to plough through, he actually molds the plot and the characters throughout the book. This gives it a whole and rounded feeling. There was only one problem - it was over too quickly! I could have read another 500 pages, but they just weren't there. Bigger book next time, LC?

5.0 out of 5 stars When a stadium falls apart, the streets become the arena!, August 10, 2000

Imagine a planet where 'Mechanized combat is a mere game, where instead of fighting wars, warriors fight personal battles for personal glory.

Welcome to Solaris VII.

When Michael Searcy was on a steady rise to the top of Solaris VII as the Grand Champion, the stadium he fought in "failed", and the shielding equipment broker down. Brawls broke out outside, claiming it was eithe rhte dAvionists or the Lyran loyalists faults. 'Mechs went on to carrying out grudges in the middle of common-place streets. War has taken over Solaris. Michael is set to change that.

Excellent writing by Loren Coleman, a pleasant change from the Capellan stories recently to the FedCom civil war. Buy this, its important for the BTech timeline coming up!
