5.0 out of 5 stars Do not pay more than $50 for this it is being phased out, October 30, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Battletech Introductory Box Set (Classic Battletech) (Game)
The CBT Introductory Box set is being phased out to be replaced in the coming months by the 25th Anniversary Battletech Box Set. That being said the original Box set is well worth the money for under $50. It contains 24 plastic mechs to use for playing, an introductory rule book, an introductory history book and a painting/tactics guide to miniatures as well as large paper maps. The plastic mechs are unpainted but you can play with them right out of the box. If you can find this for less than $50 its worth it. However unless you are a serous collector there Is no reasonable explanation to pay the exploited prices listed here on amazon. Also this is not a rare item in any sense of the word and is not worth more than $50.

4.0 out of 5 stars What the box includes, April 28, 2008
This review is from: Battletech Introductory Box Set (Classic Battletech) (Game)
Like all starter sets, this introductory box set contains several pieces of essential information to get you started with commanding a lance of mechs. You'll find 5 books that will help you understand the rules, help in recording the battles you fight, and a brief synopsis on the BattleTech universe. Additionally, you'll find 24 unpainted miniatures to use with the included map sheets. The box set also has a poster to hang upon your wall and dice to play with.

The game does get pretty involved with rules as you advance in skill. But with practice, rule application will become second nature. If you like playing this, you'll most likely get involved in the BattleTech universe and will want to buy source materials and advanced rule books.

Although, BattleTech matches are some what difficult to find (depending were you live and with who), with this product you'll understand that Classic BattleTech is an acquired taste, and the taste of battle with mechs is SWEET.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome game, incredible value, August 23, 2008

This review is from: Battletech Introductory Box Set (Classic Battletech) (Game)
This box set is a great deal. It comes with 24 good quality, durable plastic miniatures, and easy to follow steps if you want to paint them. The rules are very well done, with a very easy Quickstart set that teaches the basics of the game to anyone very quickly. The full introductory rules then add in all of the other options for a very fun, exciting game. There is a lot more to enjoy; the Inner Sphere at a Glance section gives a lot of detail about the fictional setting. There is a good amount of material just to look at and enjoy. There is an amazing amount of play you can get out of this set, several hundreds of hours, at a minimum, and there is still more you can explore. This is a great game.

4.0 out of 5 stars Overall Good value, July 15, 2009
This review is from: Battletech Introductory Box Set (Classic Battletech) (Game)
This set was pretty much as expected. Nice assortment of mechs, though some flashing and minor scale issues detract on a few pieces. Anyone familiar with Battletech's last box of plastic minis, not the Citytech junk, will find something familiar and enjoyable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wish I started playing with this!, May 29, 2009
This review is from: Battletech Introductory Box Set (Classic Battletech) (Game)
I've been playing Battletech for years now, and I sure wish something like this was around when I started. The manual is much more organized than my classic boxed set and the miniatures are great! Originally they just gave you punchouts -- they look terrible, not to mention almost impossible to keep on a hex. If you're a new player or just want a bunch of cheap miniatures, be sure to pick this up!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing set, April 3, 2009
This review is from: Battletech Introductory Box Set (Classic Battletech) (Game)
As said before this set has all the necessary components for a complete Battletech game , the mechs are good ,not perfect, have some flash to be removed and come without color but they are varied and interesting, the maps have 2 sides and can be mixed for interesting terrains, i loved the history of the Inner Sphere and the star map poster ,it gives depth to the background ,the quick start rules are easy to learn ,the introductory are more complex but manageable. The possibility for tank and infantry battles next to the mechs is awesome !
In resume this is a 5 Stars set for a Battletech starter like me.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Place to Start: Cheap Mechs!, March 20, 2009
This review is from: Battletech Introductory Box Set (Classic Battletech) (Game)
I recently bought this for my friends back in the Philippines to augment their inventory of minis.

This product is a great starting point for those of you who are planning to play classic battletech. It comes with 24 plastic unpainted Mechs, record sheets, 2 Map Sheets, quick reference cards, dice and background material.

Enough to start without getting overwhelmed with rules of rules.
