4.0 out of 5 stars Lively and entertaining selection from a great artist!, December 27, 1999
This review is from: Batuca No Chao (Audio CD)
This is a very bouncy and cheerful collection by Martinho Da Vila, described in the liner notes as one of the greatest living exponents of samba. There is an excellent bio of Da Vila in the liner notes; however, no information is provided on the songs themselves, aside from the titles and authors. For one who is trying to learn more about this music, I found it frustrating that not even the titles have been translated; one has to be content with the sound and the sprightly delivery of this music, which is carefree and upbeat, for the most part and gives the feel of a party in the tropics. This artist deserves more recognition in this country, which would be more effectively nurtured if his publishers would give us more translations so we can understand and join him in celebrating Brazilian music.
