Right Choice of Loupe?,

I'm still trying to decide whether this was a good choice of eye loupe. When I was maybe twelve years old I bought a jeweler's loupe that probably cost fifty cents (I remember that amount was inscribed in red wax pencil on its side), and I had it a long time (probably is still around someplace). It was a black plastic item with a glass lens like this one, but it fit me without a problem. Now maybe my eye socket anatomy has changed, but this one feels of a smaller diameter, and I have to really grimace to have it stay in my eye. Also--my fault for choosing it--the 7x model has a very short working distance, which just adds to the inconvenience. The power/convenience tradeoff means you should get the 5x, I think.I intend to look for the old one to compare; I don't think it's my imagination that the flare at the end was a bit more pronounced, and held in the eye better. Anyway, for B&L chauvinists, you will be glad to see the name emblazoned on the side for possible snob appeal. Me, I may look again for a no-name model I saw that has a rubberized flared part and sells in the 3-4 dollar range.

Much better than most loops out there. Just make sure to get the right power lens and use the right side next to your eye.
