Recently discovered I've had dry eyes for a very long time. It became so bad that it would wake me up at night. It was as painful as if sand was in my eyes. My doc gave me some drops to try, but even though they were reasonably simple ingredients, they still contained preservatives. I'm allergic to many things and I turned out to be allergic to the preservatives in those drops.

Then I found Bausch and Lomb's Soothe Night Time ointment. It only has mineral oil and petroleum jelly - that's ALL it contains. No preservative. It does not sting. It does not cause me any allergic reactions. Best of all, it resolves my eye pain totally. For a while I would use it once at night, and again during the day time until my eyes healed. Now I only need it at night. And my eyes are no longer painful, scratchy, etc. Nor does eye pain wake me at night.

The only down side is that since it is a gel product, it will blur your sight for a very short while after putting it in. This can't be avoided. It isn't painful, or scary, but a bit annoying. If you put it in right before going to sleep, it isn't even an annoyance. The blur only lasted about 10 minutes anyway, then I could read again.

A note to women who wear eye makeup, like me. While it can be used during the day, beware that it will melt your eye makeup as it inevitably seeps out around your eyes. Nothing like looking like I had a black eye thanks to melting mascara. LOL But this isn't marketed for day use anyway, so that might be a moot point.

Lastly, another reviewer elsewhere commented on a better way to get the ointment into one's eyes. It works for me, so I'm going to repeat it here. The directions state to always avoid touching the tip - you don't want to risk infecting the whole tube of ointment.

I get dry eyes from time to time and I've tried several top brands. Hands down, Soothe drops work best. When you first use them, they'll be a little milky. That clears quickly as does the dry eye discomfort. These dispensers are especially great for convenience. You can leave a few of them in your office desk, car and elsewhere for a quick and easy eye lube.

Before I discovered Bausch & Lomb Soothe I had been waking up half a dozen times a night to put eye drops in my eyes.
I would awake with my eyes so dry it was painful to open them to get the drops in. Now I just put in a small amount
of Soothe and am able to sleep through the night! I highly recommend this product.

Really lubricating. The vials have a lot of liquid in them so I usually save the vial for a few applications.

I truly recommend this product. My eyes are extremely dry all the time. I even used to get up once or twice a night to put drops in my eyes. Then I found Refresh pm. I saw an immediate difference for the nighttime, and also saw a big improvement during the daytime if I have used it the night before. You squeeze a little gel under your eyelids before bed. Blink your eyes and rotate the eyes with closed eyelids to spread it around. You will be seeing through a haze after that, but it is very soothing. I love this product and will not be without it again.

After Lasik surgery I had been using gel formula eye drops to restore comfort to my occasionally dry eyes. As time went on I found I didn't need quite the level of moisture the gel provided but still a little more than regular strength drops, especially during allergy season and when heat and central A/C are in use in my home. My eye doctor gave me a few samples of this B&L Soothe Eye Drops and I found they offer great relief from dry eyes.

This formula lasts much longer than other brands I've tried. I find this especially helpful in situations like where I am driving and do not have the time or opportunity to reapply drops often. I rarely wear contact lenses anymore but when I do, this formula keeps them comfortable and does not interfere in any negative way with my contacts.

I always compare prices and you may want to see if you too can find this locally for less. Also, the packaging of this product has recently changed to what the seller has added with the purple and blue box - see photo added.

Pleased with this product and recommended.

I have extremely dry eyes and am subject to corneal abrasions occurring when I sleep if I don't use a very good nighttime eye lubricant ointment. I normally use either Refresh PM or Genteal nighttime ointment, but, because I use so much the expense is quite high and not covered by insurance since it's OTC. In an effort to save a dollar and change per tube, I ordered this Bausch & Lomb ointment. The two main ingredients are the same as those in Genteal, but the ratio is different. I hoped that wouldn't matter. Unfortunately, either that or some other aspect of this product's formulation prevents it from working like the other brands do. I used it once and awoke early in the morning with one eye in excrucating pain--the result of a corneal abrasion that formed in spite of using a liberal amount of the product. I was in terrible pain and unable to stand light or keep my eye open for most of that day.

Saving money is not a bargain if the product doesn't work as well as the more expensive one. I won't buy this brand again. If you have extremely dry eyes, you may want to think twice before using this ointment overnight. I recommend Genteal and Refresh PM ointments instead, even though they cost more money.
