Product Description

Amazon.com Review

If you use your random-orbit sander on a fairly regular basis, you probably go through a lot of sanding pads. This is true not only because the pads wear out but because they pick up so much dirt and debris. The Baxter Creek SS001 Sander Sitter is designed to extend the life of those sanding pads by cleaning and restoring them to health. Just place your running sander onto the unit while you adjust your work piece, and let the Sand Sitter's crepe rubber pad polish the sanding disc clean. You can also use it after you've finished a job to eliminate wind-down time when you turn the sander off. The Sand Sitter holds firmly to any flat surface and can be bench-mounted if you prefer. It works on all 5-inch random-orbit disc palm sanders and can extend a sanding disc's life by as much as 400 to 500 percent. --Carl Thress

Product Description

Now you don't need to turn your sander on and off each time you need to reposition your work. While it sits, you're free to work - and your sandpaper disk gets gently cleaned by the crepe pad.Eliminates 70% - 80% of debris from the disk.

4.0 out of 5 stars Yes, this actually works, November 27, 2004

It seems odd that you need to 'break in' this simple device but you need to. After following the directions, it works like a charm.

I make a lot of small stuff and I continually need to stop and rotate the part in the vise. I was doing these small spindles for a bookcase. 4 spindles x 4 rows x 2 sides x 4 sides per spindle = a helluva lot of time waiting for the sander to wind down. This thingamajiggie probably cut down the time needed by half. Really. No kidding.

If time is money, this investment started making profits for me the first day I owned it. Still, it seems awfully expensive for what it is. So, it only gets 4 stars.

UPDATE: I paid $24 for mine. I see that these are now selling for about $15. So, I'd give it a five.

1.0 out of 5 stars Why did I buy this??, December 3, 2004

Can't remember why I thought I needed this sander sitter. You have to set the sander down in it perfectly or it spins off the bench. If using a variable speed on highest setting the whole thing will "walk" off the bench if you leave it running more than a few seconds. First time my sander hit the floor I was a little more than upset. The whole mech is too light. As for the cleaning aspect, with the new stearite disks you can get, here on Amazon and from suppliers like Klingspor, you are hard pressed to ever load em up anyway. It's another one of those "good ideas" that just doesn't transfer from concept to actual use very well. If you just really have to have one, let me know, I'll send ya mine for the cost of postage. Can't recommend this one.

1.0 out of 5 stars Why did I purchase this??...., August 3, 2004

I can easily say that Im a notch above being a "novice woodworker" and I have had this product for a year. I am finding some things that Ive purchased I use more others less. This I don't use at all and find it taking up space it the shop. I too have read the instuctions
1) it is a hassel and fustrating to have ones sander with rolled up edges. I found myself trying to accomodate the sander to the sitter
2) Clogging of my sandpaper really has not been a issue unless I really grind the machine in the wood or wanting to remove too much material (I use a belt sander for this)
3) I really got suckered in this one I would of perferd buying another pack of sand paper or a clamp with the money I spent on this.
Its disturbing to me that these types of woodworking products are being bought instead of an nice hand tool like a block plane or chisel which I am finding out I use a lot more and will last me a lot longer than this. I give one star for being fooled into buying it. I wont get fooled again.
