great soundtrack, but missing a track, September 21, 2007
This review is from: The Baxter (Audio CD)
This is an unbelievably good soundtrack. A lot of the songs on it are songs that were created just for this movie, some of which are meant to sound like 80's period pieces (like a breakdancing song, a Cyndi-Lauperesque prom song), others are just trippy funk, and a few are piano-ey sort of theme pieces. "Don't Melt" and "Coke vs. Pot and Beer" are two of the best truly alternative tracks I've ever heard. Rashida Jones (daughter of Quincy Jones, and maybe even more famous for starring as Karen on The Office) sings beautifully on "When Your Man is Wild." Strangely enough, some of these songs are used so quietly and sparingly in the movie, that you wouldn't even necessarily think this movie had a great soundtrack after watching it. It really does, though. Sadly, even though the Amazon paragraph mentions Rufus Wainwright, he and his awesome song "Beautiful Child" are conspicuously absent from this soundtrack. It's really the only song from the movie that is absent, but one of the best from the movie, and from a pivotal and memorable part of the movie.
