Definely a "must have" for all those from the "Yay"....,

I must admit that I was on a serious mission trying to find some music from back home (Cali's Bay Area). First on my list was The Click, JT the bigga figga and DruDown. I came across this and saw all the titles on the track and listened to some samples and almost died. It brought me back to '91, '92 days at the side show on Hegenberger and Emeryville Denny's. A MUST HAVE for all those away from the "Yay" (and others that appreciate the sound) wanting to re-live your early 90's or just parlay....

Tight '94 tracks,

Some of the tightest Bay Area rap tracks to come out around 1994. I spent years trying to track down the Mac Mall remix of Game Recognize Game, and this CD was the only place that I could find it. The hits start getting a little weak near the end of the CD, but the first section more than makes up for it. Unlike other compilations, the songs are well recorded and equalized. Perfect for cruising...

One Of The All-Time Great Compilations,

First of all, one luv to the bay for putting down some of the best lyricists and musical talent to ever walk into the studio from Sly & The Family Stone to Peebles to Too Short to The Click. This compilation gives us a view of the bay area rap scene came through and to me a lot of information of the independent rap label came about. The compilation starts of with Numskull of The Luniz giving you a thesis of what to expect on this compilation and the CD just rolls into it with "I've Got 5 On It. The CD just flows on with interviews and some of the trunk rattling joints that put the trademark on the bay area rap scene. Mac Mall gives great insight on the formation of YBB and on how Vallejo(35 miles north of Oakland) was a hotbed in the making for gangster rap. Another reason I appreciate this CD is due to the fact this compilation did not exclude MC Hammer for what may happen with him and all of the sellout controversy that went on in the early '90's. The CD gives us an all-star cast at the end with the cut "Bay Luv". Overall this was a maximum effort from the bay. As I have been saying again and again, we need some from the bay or L.A. to step up today flip the script to the way it was. The only way is to stop trying to compete with the mainstream artist because they are in for a minute. All I have to say is the bay area produced some of the best music in the rap music industry and will never be forgotten. One Luv to the Bay!!!!

the Bay Area's finest,

I got this CD when it first came out in 98. It's a great reminder of when the unique Bay Area funk sound was at its apex in the early and mid 90s. I also remember when they actually used to play these songs on KMEL. If anything, this CD is a excellent insight to the independent spirit of the Bay. Those were the days.

One of the best compilation of rap ever produced,

One word could be used to describe this CD. Awesome. This CD is like a musical history of the Bay Area rap scene. From "I Got 5 on It" by Luniz to my personal favorite "Pimp of the Year" by Dru Down, every song has its' own personality and bumpin' beat. Many of these rappers the public normally doesn't get to hear because of lyrical content, but this is your chance to experience the Bay Area rap scene which is easily one of the best in the world. I say check it out. If you like rap at all, you will definately love this classic. Representin' the V, Vallejo CA, word out.
