4.0 out of 5 stars The Motherland's Best Dance Company, January 31, 2001
By A Customer
A great dance company demands equally great music. I was fortunate enough to see two live performances by the Bayanihan - one here in the US and the other in Manila. Both times I found it hard to resist singing or humming along to the music of my motherland.

This cd brings back those memories. It's a fine production. You can even hear the clapping of the bamboo poles in "Tinikling," much like you would in a live performance.

Too bad there is no video to accompany it, though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bayanihan Philippine Dance Company, January 14, 2000
By A Customer
If you're interested in the culture of the island, this CD has it all. It combines both the Spanish influence with the people of the island, and not forgetting the outer island. This is truly the music of the Philippines!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for leisure and accompaniment to Folk Dancing!, June 4, 1999
By A Customer
This is a wonderful CD! It is very diverse in that it reflects many of the tribal regions of the Philippines, as well as the foreign influences on them--Spanish in particular. You will enjoy this CD very much . It is also perfect for dancing. =)

4.0 out of 5 stars From one who has the LP phono records., June 6, 2002
I'm interested in getting the CD version of the Bayanihan LPs. Presumably the CD version collection were culled from master tapes or records, and thus are scratch free, because the LPs I have are worn out and noisy from countless playings. The music and songs are typically Filipino and I would really enjoy enormously if the CD version is clean and pristine as the day it was originally recorded. I presume not all the Bayanihan recordings can be contained in one CD, and more of those will be issued in the future. Thank you very much for allowing me to express my gratitude.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting Philipppine Musical Experience, August 3, 2006
The Bayanihan Music and Dance Company came to The US in the late 1970's almost every year. Now, I understand they have been disbanded for some reason. But, they left behind 4 or 5 LP Albums which have now been transferred to CD. All of these CD;s would be worth buying.

Philippine music has two influences: The Muslim and The Spanish. The Muslim parts are often comprised of "gongs" and the metallic sound of "gongs". I prefer the parts of the CD's that have The Spanish influence. These parts have "rondalla bands" with guitars plucking away with gusto! "The Bayanihan Christmas" CD is also very good. I suggest you buy one or preferably ALL of these CD's. This music will be enjoyed by people whether or not they are Philippino or some other ethnic extraction. Email:boland7214@aol.
