This is a very effective poison but be careful! This product is a very fine powder in a soft-sided container. It is too easy to shoot this powder out in a poisonous cloud when you open the container if you are squeezing it. If you don't want it in your face, hold the container as far from you as you can while avoiding squeezing the container and unscrewing the cap. Both of mine arrived with the inner seal covering the shaker top displaced. Don't assume yours is sealed under the cap or you will blast this poison onto yourself or bystanders.

Don't Buy. Too Expensive,

I'm not rating this low because of the product. This is an excellent product. It kills the mounds with no problem. Easy to use and goes a long way. The problem is you can buy this at Home Depot (same 16 oz. container) for $9.97.

I have a fire ant infestation in my yard. I have treated 30-40 ant beds. Every mound that I have treated has piles and piles of dead ants. When I disturbed the mound no life is present. I highly recommend this product. Great Results!!! Great buy for the price.

This item has been discontinued in many stores so buy it while you can (in dust form). I have tried hundreds of dollars worth of products and this one is the ONLY one that REALLY works!! I wish Bayer would have redistributed it to Walmarts and Lowes stores this year!

I was unable to find Bayer Fire Ant Killer Dust in my local home improvement stores this season, so I purchased another brand of fire ant powder. I used the other brand as directed (pour the specified amount on the mound and do not water in), and all of the mounds just moved within a foot or two from the newly treated mound. I used the Bayer product before, and always had success. I found it on Amazon and ordered it and when it came in, I treated 3 good sized mounds. All three mounds are gone. You need to shake a small amount on the mound and water it in slowly with about a gallon of water. If you revisit the mound about an hour later, you will see a large pile of ant carcasses. It works.I have seen ants repopulate a mound after a year or two, so it's not permanent. Apply Over 'n Out Fire Ant Killer with a spreader, use the Bayer powder when you find a mound, and you will keep the fire ant population under control.

Great product! I don't have fire ants here, but I have a lot of smaller ants everywhere, outside and inside. This is the only product that keeps them at bay.

I've used this product on mounds in Florida and nests in California. It's highly effective in both places. [PSA: The ants in California are bigger, more aggressive, and pack a much more potent sting. So watch out!] Within 30 minutes, there is significant die-off. Within an hour, good-bye colony. Contrary to another reviewer's experience, I can confirm the collapse of dozens of mounds. Needless-to-say, the ants do come back within a few weeks; but that's just the way it goes. I try to use a pretty light application. Watering-in isn't necessary. At the time of this review, this site is sadly charging more than double what I can buy it off the shelf for at one of the box hardware stores here in central Florida. On the other hand, I can't seem to find it at any store in California. I was told by one store that it's banned there, but I can't find any other evidence on the web to support that claim. Could be true or perhaps it's just a distribution factor.

I have made repeated applications to my mound of fire ants. It kills the ants I see but does not kill the mound.
