5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent pot for crawfish boils!
This is an excellent pot for crawfish or other seafood boils! The aluminum is thick and sturdy, and the handles are heavy duty. 2.0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for
This pot was a bit of a disappointment. I guess that the adage "You get what you pay for" is true. I picked this one because it was the cheapest I found and now I know why. It is made with thinner aluminum and is less quality. The pot was distorted out of shape from pressure on the carton during shipping. This was actually easily fixed by just squeezing the pot back...

This pot was a bit of a disappointment. I guess that the adage "You get what you pay for" is true. I picked this one because it was the cheapest I found and now I know why. It is made with thinner aluminum and is less quality. The pot was distorted out of shape from pressure on the carton during shipping. This was actually easily fixed by just squeezing the pot back into shape. A good quality stockpot of this size would never be that flimsy or easy to bend out of or into shape. I can't wait to fill it up with water and pick it up by the handles. It feels like it is likely to distort just from the weight of the water and pressure of the handles on the flimsy sides. I would recommend paying a little more and getting a thicker, more commercial quality pot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent pot for crawfish boils!, February 4, 2010
This review is from: Bayou Classic 1000 100-Qt. Aluminum Stockpot with Boil Basket (Lawn & Patio)
This is an excellent pot for crawfish or other seafood boils! The aluminum is thick and sturdy, and the handles are heavy duty. I am not worried at all about it handling a full load of water and seafood! I'm trying it out in a few weeks when it gets warmer, but I can tell already that it will get the job done (I've done quite a few crawfish boils before and have seen inferior pots).

I would prefer it if the boil basket were slightly higher, but you don't really want to overfill the pot anyway, so it's a good precaution.

In terms of what it will hold, it should cook up to 60 lbs of seafood, along with corn, potatoes, and sausage, in one batch!

This is an impressively large and sturdy pot that I'm sure will last for years of occasional use. The handles seem sturdy as does the basket and its lifting handle. The lid is a bit thin and if dropped could get warped easly, but it is aluminum so easy to bend back. I only have one complaint; I would have liked the basket to be a little shorter, that way I could put something in the bottom of the pot to leave a space to use it as a steamer. As it is, if I put even a 1" spacer in the bottom, then the lid doesn't sit tight.

I don't agree with the reviewer that said it was flimsy. I think that is just the feel of aluminum compared to the normal steel pots we are all used to. Even the higher end aluminum pots that cost twice as much still have the "flimsy feel". But I will say this isn't a professional grade pot, it you plan on using it every day or every weekend you may want to invest in something better. For me, I'll use it 3-4 times a year, and I have no doubt it will last me for years.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gets it done, January 17, 2012
This review is from: Bayou Classic 1000 100-Qt. Aluminum Stockpot with Boil Basket (Lawn & Patio)
I have 2 of these that have cooked several thousand pounds of crawfish.
They easily cook up to 1 1/2 bags of crawfish with vegetables. The pots are fairly thick and strong but will get dented with gentle abuse. The strainer basket are more likely to bend as they are a lot thinner. But what the heck, these dents don't adversely effect their cookability. In fact, they give the pots character! If you get one that has a minor dent or two, don't worry about it or send it back. Just use it. It will cook as good as a perfect one. Also, getting a dented one takes away the worry of when you are going to dent it yourself. Hey - predented pots should actually cost more!

You should use a high output burner with these big boys. The Bayou Classic double jet burner (SP2) works great at getting them hot fast and keeping them hot. You need a powerfull burner for re heating your spiced water after your loads have cooled so the crawfish soak up the seasoning.

I have only had mine for 3 years and they still look great. I do take good care to wash, dry and properly store them between uses and seasons.

5.0 out of 5 stars bought for the BOIL!, June 17, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Bayou Classic 1000 100-Qt. Aluminum Stockpot with Boil Basket (Lawn & Patio)
We bought this pot for a huge crawfish boil that we have annually at our house. My husband couldn't wait to use his new pot. It worked great; we were able to boil more crawfish in less time...leaving more time for the cook to enjoy himself!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pretty big pot, May 30, 2011

When people see the pot, they always say, wow, that is a huge pot! Also, any reviewers that say this pot is flimsy or not sturdy enough is a lunatic. During crawfish boils, I tend to get a little wacky and I end up being fairly rough on the equipment. This pot is plenty solid. Also, in case anyone is wondering like I was before I bought the pot, it is plenty big enough for a nice, big, full sack of crawfish. I would wager that I could probably boil two sacks at once if I needed to. It is a great pot!

1.0 out of 5 stars Showed up with dented lid., June 21, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The pot is fine(minus the dented lid). The service is horrible. This is the last time I order from Amazon.

The pot showed up in 2 days(great). If you want to return it plan on spending an hour on hold then waiting 2-3 weeks to get a replacement. I will never order from Amazon again!
