5.0 out of 5 stars Great product
I use this burner in my homebrew set up. It easily produces enough heat to bring ~12gal of liquid to a nice boil fairly quickly. The stand, obviously, can support all that liquid weight plus the weight of the keg that I use for my brew kettle, more than 120 pounds! Really-great product; and no assembly required.

3.0 out of 5 stars Powerful burner, mediocre wind protection
This burner came mostly assembled with no damage or missing parts.

I brew beer with this burner and can bring 6-7 gallons to a boil in a flash. It impossible to get a good flame with the knob opened all the way, but once you find the sweet spot it is more than enough for most uses. Based on the pictures I imagined this to have better wind protection than it...

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful. Sturdy. A beast., November 24, 2007

I like the short legs. A big heavy pot doesn't have far to get to the ground. I put it on flat concrete in my back yard.

The instructions hardly seemed to apply. 95% of the assembly indicated had already been done. If you barely have a clue, then yes, the last 4 items (2 screws, air intake adjuster, gas pipe) might take a minute to figure out, but if that's the case you shouldn't be in charge of this monster anyway.

Putting it on full blast is, well, a blast. Like a small jet engine. Adjusting the air intake to get the perfect blue flame is fun.

Don't know how easy this would be to put on a simmer in a breeze, the flame can be invisible in bright sunlight and could easily blow out on low power.

But I just want it to blast heat energy into water. 3 gallons from 60 degrees to a roiling boil in 10 mins. Nice.

Be careful, as you would naturally expect to be with something that smacks out up to 150,000 BTU.

Keep away from small ponies, children and cuddly toys.

I might dock it one star for a slightly wobbly burner (not a load bearing piece though) and poor manual (hardly needed). But I'm not going to because it does exactly what I want at a great price.

Update, 8/31/08: I bought this for $40. It seems to be much more than this today.

After using the product for a while, I think a windshield feature would be useful: the flame will blow out in a breeze.

I would probably pick Bayou Classic SP10 High-Pressure Outdoor Gas Cooker, Propane instead.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great burner, GREAT PRICE, March 8, 2007

Great for home brewers.

I purchased this burner for my brew kettle (converted keg). This burner heats
quickly, keeps a good boil and the keg fits on the stand perfectly. The burner is a pit "picky" regarding the air/fuel mixture - I had to find a sweet spot on the regulator and the air inlet on the burner. Once I got it the air intake adjusted in everything was fine.

The product is wonderful. It will heat up cooking oil very fast and the flame is easy to adjust. Stews or frying this product is the one you need. Only down side is the height. Either put it on cement blocks, buy the expensive 25.00 legs, or weld some legs on yourself but it is rather short. Very durable and well made construction. It didnt wobble even with me sitting on it.

I am using this mainly for home brewing. It is able to bring large volumes of water to a boil quickly, easy to control propane delivery and flame heat, and easy to adjust air intake. It came pretty much fully assembled and you are ready to hook up propane and light in just a few minutes. The unit is heavy as it is made of quality steel and very stable. A great little burner.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for Homebrewers, November 7, 2007
This review is from: Bayou Classic SQ14 Single Burner Outdoor Patio Stove (Lawn & Patio)
Once I got the air flow plate adjusted correctly the burner worked like a charm! Brought 4 gallons of wort to a boil in 10-15 minutes with an outside ambient temp of +/-50d F! When the wind kicked up the flame barely moved. The stand is very sturdy and has a large enough base to fit a large (15 gallon) pot. I'd recommend this burner to any homebrewer!

I would have given the burner 5 stars but I have a few nitpicks. I'd like to see a longer hose to my propane tank. I really wish that the instructions were more informative; there was no literature instructing the end user on how to adjust the flame for maximum efficiency.

Based on the pictures I imagined this to have better wind protection than it does. The square box frame is too far from the burner to help in this regard. I probably would now select a different model, but at least it does make stuff hot in a hurry.

I am using this specifically for homebrewing and it got 6 gallons of wort going in no time. Really well built. Only complaint would be the threads on the aluminum burner where the regulator hose screws in were a little chewed up, but once I got it screwed in everything was fine.

Great Product, very recomended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blew me away, July 16, 2007
This review is from: Bayou Classic SQ14 Single Burner Outdoor Patio Stove (Lawn & Patio)
I ended up buying this for $45 from home depot cuz i didnt wanna wait for it to come in the mail. I have a smoker that i built out of a 4' x 2' tomato paste drum from work, and I had two electric burners inside it. The electric burners werent heating the drum up over 190 degrees, and i needed the temprature to reach 220, so i bought this. Well, considering this burner plus the propane tank cost around $100, i would have been angry if it didnt work alot better than a pair of $10 electric burners. But while those wouldnt quite get the smoker hot enough, i had to work really hard to figure out how to keep the smoker from getting rediculously hot with this one. It's pretty massive.

It's a very basic design and great for the price. Extremely easy to set up. Keep in mind though that the flame can not be seen in direct sunlight! I almost burned myself thinking the gas was not lit yet. But i would think you could heat anything up very very fast with this. And now i have a reason to build a bigger better smoker.

UPDATE: Haha have I really had this thing for over a year? Well I dont have a smoker anymore, but I'm using it for wok cooking now. Still works great. The burner unit is rusting but it still works fine, and I see you can get a replacement from Amazon for $10. Thats what I love about this thing, its so cheap and simple but so efficient. It's like an old classic car. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is an awsome stove for camping, November 5, 2006

This review is from: Bayou Classic SQ14 Single Burner Outdoor Patio Stove (Lawn & Patio)
I just came back from camping, and this stove worked great. I used a cast iron skillet on it for bacon and eggs, potatos, and hamburgers. I could even use my percolator coffee maker. Worked like a charm. Thinking about getting a dutch oven to go with the burner, for camping or just chillin' in the back yard.

Hope the review was worth your time.
