I use this burner in my homebrew set up. It easily produces enough heat to bring ~12gal of liquid to a nice boil fairly quickly. The stand, obviously, can support all that liquid weight plus the weight of the keg that I use for my brew kettle, more than 120 pounds! Really-great product; and no assembly required.

I like the short legs. A big heavy pot doesn't have far to get to the ground. I put it on flat concrete in my back yard.

The instructions hardly seemed to apply. 95% of the assembly indicated had already been done. If you barely have a clue, then yes, the last 4 items (2 screws, air intake adjuster, gas pipe) might take a minute to figure out, but if that's the case you shouldn't be in charge of this monster anyway.

Putting it on full blast is, well, a blast. Like a small jet engine. Adjusting the air intake to get the perfect blue flame is fun.

Don't know how easy this would be to put on a simmer in a breeze, the flame can be invisible in bright sunlight and could easily blow out on low power.

But I just want it to blast heat energy into water. 3 gallons from 60 degrees to a roiling boil in 10 mins. Nice.

Be careful, as you would naturally expect to be with something that smacks out up to 150,000 BTU.

Keep away from small ponies, children and cuddly toys.

I might dock it one star for a slightly wobbly burner (not a load bearing piece though) and poor manual (hardly needed). But I'm not going to because it does exactly what I want at a great price.

Update, 8/31/08: I bought this for $40. It seems to be much more than this today.

After using the product for a while, I think a windshield feature would be useful: the flame will blow out in a breeze.

I would probably pick Bayou Classic SP10 High-Pressure Outdoor Gas Cooker, Propane instead.

Bought this burner to boil water and wort for beer brewing inside a converted keg (keggle). I have zero experience with outdoor stoves/burners, so I made sure to run the soap test for leaks and everything checked out fine.

I originally tried boiling 7 gallons of water to test and it took me 45 minutes, which was too long. I called the 800 number and customer service was great, they told me to stop being a chicken and feel free to turn the hose control all the way on, as I had only went about half ways because the flame was already pretty intense and pretty loud. So I tried again, went full blast, and got to boil with a new batch of 7 gallons of water in about 12 minutes. Perfect!

The 15.5 gallon keg sits perfect on the burner. It sits nice and sturdy. The paint on the burner does burn off the first time you use it, and the scent is pretty noticeable, but oh well, as long as it gets the job done. Just brewed my first all-grain beer on it, and I'm looking forward to the next brew day!

Great for home brewers.

I purchased this burner for my brew kettle (converted keg). This burner heats

quickly, keeps a good boil and the keg fits on the stand perfectly. The burner is a pit "picky" regarding the air/fuel mixture - I had to find a sweet spot on the regulator and the air inlet on the burner. Once I got it the air intake adjusted in everything was fine.

Once I got the air flow plate adjusted correctly the burner worked like a charm! Brought 4 gallons of wort to a boil in 10-15 minutes with an outside ambient temp of +/-50d F! When the wind kicked up the flame barely moved. The stand is very sturdy and has a large enough base to fit a large (15 gallon) pot. I'd recommend this burner to any homebrewer!

I would have given the burner 5 stars but I have a few nitpicks. I'd like to see a longer hose to my propane tank. I really wish that the instructions were more informative; there was no literature instructing the end user on how to adjust the flame for maximum efficiency.

My wife got two of these for me to use for homebrewing. I'm moving from a single Bayou SP10.
Pluses:
More even heat distribution over bottom of pots
Very quiet
Even on highest setting no flames come up the side of the pot (unlike the SP10)
Stainless steel hose! I've set rubber hoses on fire so I need this!

Minuses:
Low height. But I purchased these to use on a custom brew stand so I was aware of the height and don't really think it's too bad.
Brackets that the pots sit on aren't exactly flat. On one of the burners one of them is slightly lower than the rest so the pot wants to tip slightly.

The details on this page show it uses a 10 PSI regulator but it ships with a 5 PSI. I don't think this is a problem because it was at least as fast at heating water and wort as the SP10.

The manual warns that there may be some paint that burns off. This is an understatement. The paint literally caught fire and smoldered when I first used them. Smelled awful but went away once the paint burned off.

I ended up buying this for $45 from home depot cuz i didnt wanna wait for it to come in the mail. I have a smoker that i built out of a 4' x 2' tomato paste drum from work, and I had two electric burners inside it. The electric burners werent heating the drum up over 190 degrees, and i needed the temprature to reach 220, so i bought this. Well, considering this burner plus the propane tank cost around $100, i would have been angry if it didnt work alot better than a pair of $10 electric burners. But while those wouldnt quite get the smoker hot enough, i had to work really hard to figure out how to keep the smoker from getting rediculously hot with this one. It's pretty massive.

It's a very basic design and great for the price. Extremely easy to set up. Keep in mind though that the flame can not be seen in direct sunlight! I almost burned myself thinking the gas was not lit yet. But i would think you could heat anything up very very fast with this. And now i have a reason to build a bigger better smoker.

UPDATE: Haha have I really had this thing for over a year? Well I dont have a smoker anymore, but I'm using it for wok cooking now. Still works great. The burner unit is rusting but it still works fine, and I see you can get a replacement from Amazon for $10. Thats what I love about this thing, its so cheap and simple but so efficient. It's like an old classic car. I highly recommend it.
