5.0 out of 5 stars RIVETING, EMOTIONAL READ, January 31, 2008
This review is from: Bayou Corruption (Bayou Series, Book 2) (Steeple Hill Love Inspired Suspense #89) (Mass Market Paperback)
I am officially hooked on Robin Caroll's Bayou Series from Steeple Hill Suspense.

Bayou Corruption is a deeply-moving story with a fast-moving plot that kept my gut clenched from the first page to the last.

Parts, such as the beginning of chapter three, brought me to tears. I don't often find suspense novels with this depth of emotion.

A very clever plot...and can I just say that chapter twenty-one is BRILLIANT! Bubba's blink scene is worth the price of the book alone. Bravo Robin!

The romance was so sweet, I loved the moment the hero realized his feelings...the male point of view was very well-portrayed in the writing.

Bayou Corruption is a MUST READ. Though it can stand alone in the series, you'll want to get Luc and CoCo's story while it's still available. Don't miss this series by a fabulousl up and coming author.

Robin Caroll has put out another wonderful story full of amazing characters you just fall in love with. Tossed into intrique from page one, I couldn't put it down. It stands alone just fine, but you will want to get Bayou Justice as well. Wonderful job, Robin.

This review is from: Bayou Corruption (Bayou Series, Book 2) (Steeple Hill Love Inspired Suspense #89) (Mass Market Paperback)
If you enjoy romantic suspense, then you'll enjoy Bayou Corruption. It's a great sequel to Bayou Justice. Based in South Louisiana makes it an even more interesting read. Can't wait until the next 3 in the Bayou series come out!

4.0 out of 5 stars More Mystery in the Bayou..., September 12, 2009

Love 2 Read Novels "Sherry" (a small town in Kansas USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bayou Corruption (Bayou Series, Book 2) (Steeple Hill Love Inspired Suspense #89) (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the second installment in the Bayou Series and one that doesn't let up on the action. Alyssa LaBlanc (CoCo's Sister from Bayou Justice) has returned home because her grandmere has had a heart attack. She really doesn't consider it home because of the memories it holds. Jack Devereaux has come to town to help his friend, Bubba, the police chief. The chief seems to feel there is a mole in his midst. Now he is in the hospital fighting for his life. Alyssa and Jack work together to dig for the truth of what happened to Bubba but find much more than they expected.

Bayou Corruption was better than Bayou Justice. There was so much going on in this story but never too much to keep it straight. Alyssa is a great heroin in that she is strong but struggles with her self-worth. She also struggles with self imposed guilt over the loss of her parents. Jack is a great hero. He's strong and yet very tender where Alyssa is concerned. The other thing I really enjoyed about the story is it picks up where you left off in Bayou Justice. You see all the characters you met in book 1 so it almost reads like one big story.

Looking forward to reading Book 3, Bayou Judgment.

5.0 out of 5 stars I liked it better than book one, February 18, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Bayou Corruption (Bayou Series, Book 2) (Steeple Hill Love Inspired Suspense #89) (Mass Market Paperback)
I like this book even better than the first in the series, Bayou Justice! I'm not sure why, but I like the heroine, Alyssa, better than CoCo from the first book. I don't really relate to Alyssa's job as a newspaper reporter, or her hatred of her home, or her personality, which is elegant and no-nonsense. But something about her is appealing to me as a reader, and I was immediately sucked into the story.

Like her sister CoCo, Alyssa is a strong character who doesn't take guff from anyone. She's a perfect foil for Jackson, the hero, who is also a reporter and more than a match for Alyssa's sass.

The story has hairpin turns that kept surprising me. The pacing of the story was excellent, too--I felt like the action started with a bang and never let up.

As with the first book, the culture of the bayou pervades every character, every scene, and I felt like I was on vacation in Louisiana with a close friend to both expose me to the culture and explain it at the same time. The setting itself is a character, and I loved the town, the food, the atmosphere of Lagniappe.

This is a fabulous novel for readers of all ages. The junior high girls in my church youth group will love this story, because the heroine is feisty and the hero is dashing, and the mystery and suspense kicks the romance up a notch.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Fantastic Series, February 7, 2008
This review is from: Bayou Corruption (Bayou Series, Book 2) (Steeple Hill Love Inspired Suspense #89) (Mass Market Paperback)
Great characters and settings make this series top notch in my book. Sometimes you can almost smell the bayou and feel the humid Louisiana heat. Full of suspense and great twists, Bayou Corruption keeps you guessing and speeding to the end. Can't wait for book three to hit the shelves.
