3.0 out of 5 stars creative, but...
I read the above reviews on Bayou Justice and found them a bit misleading. Granted, this is my opion, but
the writing style feels like an assignment from a very creative student who followed some type of writing method, and can be a bit annoying. This book is creative, but the writing itself is mediocre at best. This said, I must admit, I do need to find out who did...

4.0 out of 5 stars A pleasant surprise...., November 21, 2007
This review is from: Bayou Justice (Bayou Series, Book 1) (Steeple Hill Love Inspired Suspense #74) (Mass Market Paperback)
CoCo LeBlanc's heart was broken two years ago by Luc Trahan. CoCo's role in the voodoo of her family had torn them apart. Little does Luc realize, but CoCo has since become a Christian. Unfortunately, she discovers a dead body, a member of Luc's family, and once again they are thrown together. Will things change between these two once Luc realizes CoCo has accepted God into her life? Or will the murder tear them irrevocably apart?

I am not sure that I have ever read a book in this line before and Robin Caroll's book was a pleasant surprise! Her descriptions of the bayou are so vivid you can easily picture yourself there. CoCo's love of nature shines through clearly in Ms. Caroll's depictions as even the Louisiana alligators seem beautiful through her prose.

Several themes are predominant in this poignant tale, most prominently that of forgiveness. Luc and CoCo share a past as they were engaged until their religious beliefs separated them. Both jump to conclusions quickly and it was uplifting to see how they resolved their struggles with living as Christians on a daily basis.

BAYOU JUSTICE is an entertaining and inspiring story about faith. What an excellent choice for my first foray into this line! I would have liked to see more of Coco's transformation from believing in voodoo to being a Christian but I enjoyed her interactions with her voodoo believing family members. Ms. Caroll makes a powerful statement about witnessing to others about faith in this short but interesting story.

As a fellow Louisiana gal, I heartily give this debut novel two thumbs-up! Robin has dropped loveable, realistic characters smack down into a unique and oh so dangerous bayou setting that leaves you on the edge of your seat! This is more than just a classic "who dun it" story, one you do not want to miss! And guess what - its a series. Can't beat that =)

I love a book that takes me somewhere interesting and
teaches me something while leaving me on the edge of my
seat. Bayou Justice does just that. An alligator
conservationist is the main character and the book has a
great plot all around Confederate coins with an interesting
subplot about voodoo.

I was hooked from the first sentence. Great debut by a
talented author. I'll be watching for more by Caroll!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bayou Justice, December 3, 2007
This review is from: Bayou Justice (Bayou Series, Book 1) (Steeple Hill Love Inspired Suspense #74) (Mass Market Paperback)
Ms. Caroll's debut novel Bayou Justice is the first book in the Steeple Hill Love Inspired Suspense line of books that I've read and I was very impressed not only with the author, but also with the book and this line. This suspenseful thriller set in the Louisiana Bayou is an entertaining and riveting read. The relationship of main characters, Coco and Luc as they work together to solve a murder and the transformation that comes with second chances and forgiveness will touch your heart. The interesting and intriguing secondary characters and the beautiful and vivid descriptions in this book left me anxiously awaiting the next book in the series.

I'm so happy Bayou Justice is Robin Caroll's first book because that means we have more to enjoy down the road in this series. Robin has masterd the art of deep character development. You feel like you are in Coco's airboat with her as she skims over the water and looks for alligators. You feel like your own heart is skipping a beat when she is with Luc, her first and only love who has been suddenly thrust back in CoCo's life because of what she found in the bayou. And it wasn't an alligator!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read!, October 14, 2007
This review is from: Bayou Justice (Bayou Series, Book 1) (Steeple Hill Love Inspired Suspense #74) (Mass Market Paperback)
Robin Caroll's debut novel is a sure-fire hit. Being from the south, I loved how she wove in the culture and beliefs from the area with the mystery thread that kept me turning pages to find out what happened. I especially loved the heroine, CoCo LeBlanc, as she's strong, yet soft, like a true southern belle should be. The flavor of the south is mixed in with lots of action, suspense, and a touching romance. I can't wait to read the sequel coming out in February.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bayou Justice Peppered with Cajun Flare!, October 10, 2007
This review is from: Bayou Justice (Bayou Series, Book 1) (Steeple Hill Love Inspired Suspense #74) (Mass Market Paperback)
Bayou Justice (Steeple Hill Love Inspired Suspense) is peppered with Robin's Cajun flare and spice. The plot is well-structured and her main characters are strong and believable as they work together to solve the murder plaguing the town of Lagniappe. Robin's amazing ability to weave in culture and history carry this story in a compelling manner that is indicative of her unique, saucy style. She had my mouth watering for etouffee and sweat dribbling down my back from the smothering heat. Bayou Justice is a must read!

This review is from: Bayou Justice (Bayou Series, Book 1) (Steeple Hill Love Inspired Suspense #74) (Mass Market Paperback)
Robin's debut novel is the first in the exciting new Bayou Series. Her characters and settings are rich and the plot keeps you guessing. She cleverly uses dialect and historical detail to add to the mystery and flavor. It's a read that will keep you turning the pages, and waiting anxiously for book two, Bayou Corruption.

5.0 out of 5 stars Southern Suspense at its best, October 3, 2007
By
This review is from: Bayou Justice (Bayou Series, Book 1) (Steeple Hill Love Inspired Suspense #74) (Mass Market Paperback)
From the first line of chapter one, I was swept into the story and setting. This book is so tightly woven into the Louisiana Bayou that it could not take place anywhere else. And the setting propels the story forward by providing a rich array of subplots.

Coco and Luc are well-developed characters with enough history between them to keep the romance and suspense interesting. Add in the fight between voodoo and Christianity, and there's enough conflict to populate several books.

I enjoyed this book, and think you will too if you are looking for a book balanced between romance and suspense.
