Incredible,
This review is from: Bayside (W/Dvd) (Audio CD)
Let me just tell you that as a stubborn fan of the second great punk movement (NOFX, Bad Religion etc.) it's extremely difficult to get me into any of today's popular "punk", "Emo" "Emocore" etc. bands. Thursday and Taking Back Sunday type bands just don't do it for me. However, my friends feel differently so I'm often forced to listen to it. So one day my buddy put on Bayside. I was immediately hooked. The band is awesome, and this album is truly amazing from start to finish. There is no screaming on this album, just melodic singing that can easily be enjoyed by all. Throw in some sick guitar work and you've got yourself a classic album for the genre. Favorite songs: "Devotion and Desire", "Montauk", "Existing in Crisis" and "Half a Life". Truthfully, there are no bad songs.

Blame it on bad luck...R.I.P.,

I first heard about this band when the drummer John "Beatz" Holohan died on Halloween. I decided to grab the CD because i noticed that Devotion and Desire was a VERY good song. I only wished i had known about them sooner. This CD has many highpoints and is not repetitive(which seems to be a problem in some CDs). When you first listen to the Cd, you start thinking that its o.k. but then it grows on you. And suddenly, your hooked. The CD starts with a nice short starter that actually is very good.
High Points: -Devotion and Desire -Tortures of the Damned -Montauk -Blame it on Bad Luck -We'll be O.K. -Excisting in a crisis (Evelyn) -Dear Tragedy Low Point -Don't Call Me Peanut Overall, this CD is definitely deserves a listening.

Great CD,

This is one of the better emo CDs that i've heard in a while. I wouldn't be surprised to this band take over top billings on some of teh bigger victory tours that will be forthcomming. They have a very unique sound mainly due to the lead vocals of Anthony Raneri. He has a great delivery and an original voice. Also the lead guitarist Jack O'Shea has some awesome solo's on the CD. I also got a chance to see these guys recently in concert preforming tracks form this CD and they absolutly killed it, they got a call-back. My favorite songs on this Cd would have to be "They Look Like Strong Hands", "Devotion and Desire" and "We'll Be Ok". If you liked them before you like them even more. If your just into the emo scene this is a great addition.

Ok, I was reading a thread on another site about downloads. Someone recomended "Devotion And Desire". So I downloaded and was hooked. "How could I know that everything you say are lies about devotion and desire?" is just one of the great lines of this song. So, I picked up the CD. I was impressed. It's not scream-in-your-face-I-wanna-cut-myself like alot of other music now. It's passion and fire rolled into one. The songs are great and well written. Guitar rifs are good as well. Some songs do stand out more than others, like 'Devotion and Desire' and 'Tortures of the Damned'. Some of my favorites include:
-'Dear Tradgedy' -'Existing in Crisis(Evelyn' -'We'll Be O.K.' -'Blame It On Bad Luck' I recomed this Cd for those who want a change from what's really mainstream.

I thought Bayside was amazing when i bought their first cd, then i heard about there bassist (who also wrote most of the lyrics) and drummer's depature shortly after. I then assumed their next album would be a flop. How I was wrong, they topped their first album now that lead singer Anthony has taken over writing lyrics. For example, "Inside your eyes wwas just a match, used to set myself on fire." As always the guitar solos and riffs are amzing. And Anthony's laid back moody singing style is intoxicating. The first single of the album, Devotion and Desire, is my favorite song on the album at the moment, so go to purevolume.com, search bayside and listen to the song because if you are interested in the slightest to this album, you won't be dissapointed.
O yea, just to let you all know, don't brand emo as bad-haircut teens screaming about heartbreak who can barely play power chords, because that is not at all the genre. And if you think it is, don't write a review because you have no idea what Bayside and other Bayside type bands are about. And if you are a fan of emo-type music but hated this album, than be my guest and write a review.

Great Sophomore Release,
By J. Wood (Chicago) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bayside (W/Dvd) (Audio CD)
So many times artists fall into a sophomore slump after releasing a great debut. While I was expecting this to be the case, or moreso hoping that this wouldn't be the case for Bayside's self-titled release, I can happily say that this album will be in for several hundred rotations in my cd player. I just bought this cd about an hour ago and to me it sounds like this band worked hard to prevent falling into the sophomore slump. While the first album was an amazing one, I personally feel this new album is a far better one. It seems they learned from their previous mistakes of their first album, whatever those were, and turned up a new album with a similar formula to the first album, without sounding like a rerun. All in all, a well-deserved five star rating is what I give to this.

Good, really good,
This review is from: Bayside (W/Dvd) (Audio CD)
The album is a wonderful example of how punk and emo is progressing. Once you listen to this cd, you would never want to turn it off...every song on here is wonderful. Some may stick out more than others (Devotion and Desire, Tortures of the Damned,Don't Call Me Peanut, Half a Life) but compared to the music out now, anyone of these songs is better. If I was you, I wouldn't write this band off as a flash in the pan. They'll be around for awhile.

Much improved from last release,
By Kill Your Heroes "Let's Burn This Down Tonight" (Lockport, NY USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bayside (W/Dvd) (Audio CD)
When Sirens and Condolences came out I thought they sounded bored and uninterested. Sounds like guardrail gave me hope for the group. Well since then Bayside has been touring a lot and changing their ways.
They seem to have gotten a lot stronger. The vocals sound more emotional and seem to show how much the lyrics truely mean. The first cd made them sound like they were just beating themselves in the head because they had nothing to do while singing. This one they scream, growl, and yell what they are saying. Not like hardcore scream or growl just emotionally. This cd puts them up there with a lot of bands that I like. They have finally grown into their genre although there is not much in lieu of stand outs, it IS catchy and still interesting. I would suggest it. |
