This anthology of Turkish music, taken from the catalogue of ARC, closes with Ensemble Hüseyin Türkmenler's dance piece so alluring that it appears in Rough Guide's own anthology. The music heard is more traditional, of folk dances and gypsy tunes, than either Putumayo's and Rough Guide's more popular collections. Although limited, the album of nearly one hour duration still is varied with songs and instrumentals, and the various musical groups and regional styles from the Aegean, the Black Sea, and Anatolian highlands keep our ears alert. Türkmenler's ensemble dominates the selections. Because Turkish rhythms are strong and challenging, this album serves as a good introduction to this musical crossroads.

This is an excellent collection of traditional Turkish music, combining instrumental pieces, as well as songs. It gives the right flavor of Middle Eastern music, voice, and instruments.

I love this CD, so does my fifteen year old and my 66 year old mother!! Excellent music and what you would think you'd hear if you were in Turkey. Highly Recommend!!
