5.0 out of 5 stars what's that? BODY HEAT!!
I was a P.E. fan back in the day, and I always kept an ear out for any new bomb squad tracks. This joint combined their crazy production with S.O.B. and his whacked out (but not wack) group of mcs/singers (like a hip-hop james brown/funkadelic). They had a video for "Change the Style" that got a lot of airplay on mtv raps/video music box. I think the bomb squad got a...

3.0 out of 5 stars Son of Bazerk and the Band gets swivey on the wheels!
This album (listed here as Bazerk Bazerk Bazerk, but was also marketed as one without a title, or one that was self-titled) was the vehicle of producers the Bomb Squad, better known for their work with Public Enemy.

Thats where the comparison to Public Enemy should end.

This album (listed here as Bazerk Bazerk Bazerk, but was also marketed as one without a title, or one that was self-titled) was the vehicle of producers the Bomb Squad, better known for their work with Public Enemy.

Thats where the comparison to Public Enemy should end.

Son of Bazerk was a great group of guys (and a girl) that played on the lighter side of Bomb Squad and tried to superimpose itself on all of the classic soul snippets they could find (some sampled, some recreated to suit the song). The album starts out loud and fast, very rock and rap, but with a very soulful flow ... sorta like a greasy version of a poor man's James Brown. In The band gets swivey on the wheels, the songs main focus is chaos ... this whole thing is organized chaos ... but it's sweet! Part one is a buffer between Swiveys chaos and Change the style's dissonance in .. well .. styles. Part one is funk .. Change the style shifts back and forth between hip hop, 1960s soul and reggae-lite music. One time for the rebel is reminiscent of Public Enemy, without the bitterness and anger. Bang! is the straight ahead R&B/pop number on the record -- it actually has a singable hook and doesn't take you for too much of a loop like the rest of the songs in the first half manage.

The second half of the album is a sequence of interesting filler ... Much of it is to be missed, but when viewed within the concept of the album, it works when you find yourself not stopping the CD/tape after Bang (Get down, get down)!

This is definitely worth a listen if you enjoyed the SOUND of Public Enemy sometimes more than the POINT OF VIEW of Public Enemy. This came out around the same time as PE's 1991 release, and another Bomb Squad group Young Black Teenagers (now they were awful).

Singles from this record were Change the style, The band gets swivey on the wheels, and Bang (Get down, get down)!

I think the bomb squad got a little more adventurous on this one than on their other projects, and it suits the "band." Even though the best non-P.E. bomb squad produced album would be Cube's "AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted," this one has got a lot of nostalgic value for me.

1.0 out of 5 stars 1.5 stars..... bomb squad couldnt save it....., April 23, 2003

son of bazerk was one of several albums that rode on the heels of public enemy's enormous popularity (see last asiatic disciples and those awful terminator x albums), and had great promise with the bomb squad on production... son of bazerk even mimics the style of public enemy, with bazerk trying to sound like chuck d, and his sidekick trying to play a supportive flavor flav role... unfortunately, neither one has the rhyming ability or flow to keep up with the respective members of p.e.
i picked it up after hearing the single "change the style", and i was pretty disappointed overall... change the style is a decent single that mixes several types of music in an interesting way, but overall this album just didnt cut it....
