5.0 out of 5 stars Oh Say Can You See . . .
The Star Spangles deliver timeless inspired rock and roll with gusto and sincerity, and if you are a fan of Iggy, The Dead Boys, The NY Dolls, early Replacements and Hanoi Rocks, they should be right up your alley ... 3.0 out of 5 stars are these guys still around?
the last entry on their website was july 2005, and a second disc was supposedly ready for release. These guys aren't as bad as I originally thought; upon repeated listenings the songs grew on me, and once you take the GenerationX,Blondie,Heartbreakers posing with a grain of salt, they're actually pretty good.I think had they not played the "let's dress like Johnny...

The Star Spangles deliver timeless inspired rock and roll with gusto and sincerity, and if you are a fan of Iggy, The Dead Boys, The NY Dolls, early Replacements and Hanoi Rocks, they should be right up your alley ... Personally, I love the simple arrangements and great songwriting, and while I hesitate to throw comparisons around, The Star Spangles take me back to the nights I spent at Coney Island High in NYC ( a great, now closed rock/punk/glam club for all those outside the area ) soaking up the sounds of early glam, Buzzcocks and Sid ... Comparisons to Green Day are completely misguided ( ... to put it kindly ) : The Star Spangles are coming from a totally different place, and while there is room for everyone, The Stars Spangles come across more like a classic late 70's/early 80's nasty rock and roll band: Keith Richards would be proud ...

Another reason to love NYC! They like the Stooges, Dolls, & Johnny Thunders? -Well so do I! I'm gushing over these guys cause theyre just what I've been in the mood for. Theyre playing buzzy, punky rock-n-roll and I'm totally enjoying it. I cant say they're the greatest ever, and who knows if the disc will hold up to repeated listenings over the months- but I will say that its a worthwhile investment and you should check it out. Best songs to me are "Burn This House", "L.A." and "Stay Away From Me". And as for their style-I'm glad to see a young band who got fashion right (unlike the Strokes). They got the sound AND the attitude. Personally, I think it must be very satisfying to be in this band.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Rock-n-Roll. A lot of fun, September 9, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Bazooka (Audio CD)
Well maybe not the next coming of the Replacements, (yet). But close enough for my tastes. I was initially suspicious of this band. As someone who grew up in the intial "indie-outbreak" of the early 80's, I am still quick to dismiss any band/artist that has any of their records, let alone their first, on a major label with a big marketing push. But a quick glance at the back of the CD, "Produced by Daniel Ray", (ex-Ramones collaborator), prompted me to pick this up. Boy, am I glad that I did. There are similarities to the Replacements as there are to Cheap Trick, The Ramones, and Thunders/Dolls. But these similarities don't sound forced or contrived. It's just good, fun rock-n-roll that gets better with each listen. I'm looking forward to what the future holds for this talented, young, band. Buy it, and enjoy a sound you haven't heard since '88.

4.0 out of 5 stars Punk + Glam = The Star Spangles, January 2, 2006
This review is from: Bazooka (Audio CD)
This album is the first album by punk/glam rockers, The Star Spangles. This band has the best of both worlds. They got the power chord crunch and simplistic song writing from The Ramones, The Clash, and The Sex Pistols. They got the swagger of the Rolling Stones and the guitar solos of the late 80s hair metal. Quite a combonation! Their music should be on all radio stations across the country. The songs "Which One Of The Two Of Us Is Gonna Burn This House Down" and "L.A." are the best songs on this disc. If you like the Ramones or Pretty Boy Floyd, take this trip down memory lane.

5.0 out of 5 stars The New Age of Rock, October 16, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Bazooka (Audio CD)
The Star Spangles cd is one of the best cd's I've heard in years. these guys remind me alot of the Ramones. alot of comparisons are flying aroud towards the Strokes. they sound nothing like the Strokes and are much better than them because they are obviously true to their rock roots unlike some other fake New York bands. I Dont Wanna Be Crazy Anymore is the best song on this cd, the vocals are fantastic and well thought out. the Star Spangles are the real deal and hopefully here to stay.

4.0 out of 5 stars Oh Say Can You See..., September 24, 2003
This review is from: Bazooka (Audio CD)
As punk marches into the 21st century, there are countless "the" bands out there currently trying to resurrect the rock, most failing miserably with albums which are - let's face it - little more than a total racket (Strokes or Yeah Yeah Yeahs anyone?). Personally, I'd rather hear something that's raucous, loose, and bordering on Neanderthal than a group of posing, self-important urban drug casualties who try to save the world while worrying about the global implications of singing rock and roll songs. "Bazooka!!!" never tries to be anything but what it is - a beer-swilling, rock 'n' roll housewrecker of a disc crammed full of endearing car port rock (I refuse to use the term "garage") infused with an enjoy-it-now-and-think-about-it-later spirit. These guys realize their scrappy, ragtag campfire songs aren't rocket science - no apologies offered, none needed - - preferring to bring the noise via buzzing backwashes of wattage like "I Live For Speed" and "Which Of The Two Of Us." Tommy Volume's play-in-a-day riffs snarl behind Ian Wilson's more than slightly off-key vocals while the rhythm section of bassist Nick Price and drummer Joey Valentine play with enough squalid integrity to turn your hair white overnight. Influences are too many to list here (but think pre-marketing age) and pointless besides. Production, in part provided by Daniel Rey, is coated with thick wads of goo without sacrificing a coat of gritty grime and the whole album is packed to bursting with enough hooks to reel in a school of pirahna. If you harbor an adversity to axe-laced ear candy and come to the party looking for pithy, brilliant truths, you may do well to look elsewhere. The Star Spangles traffic in sloppy blasts of polydecibel (car)toons which fuse caffeinated punk to glam swirl, some of which even drool a little. I say that's a beautiful thing. Cue laugh track...

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't listen to the snobs..., June 21, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

This is a good, solid rock n'roll record.
Came out around the arrival of the Strokes,
so of course they were lumped in - but they
owe more to the Replacements than the Velvet
Underground. "I Don't Wanna Be Crazy Anymore",
a terrific ode to Cheap Trick, is one of my
favorite songs of the last five years...

4.0 out of 5 stars Real Rock from a Real Band, September 7, 2003
This review is from: Bazooka (Audio CD)
Solid. Rock Solid. The influences are obvious and many...but The SS get it done like few today do. If you like to rock, and wonder what rock's been up to...it's here on this release. Not quite 5 stars...but a strong 4.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Replacements reunion album, August 26, 2003
This review is from: Bazooka (Audio CD)
This is the rock CD I've been waiting for since PLEASED TO MEET ME. It really doesn't get any better than this...not a bad track out of 13.

And sure, the Star Spangles wear their hearts on their sleeves (what great band doesn't), but at least they're the real thing (they know how to rock live, not just pose) unlike other so-called rock bands fro NYC who are little more than hype in a silver-spoon-fed package.

This is the best rock CD of 2003...don't miss out.
