4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent content, but it's too short., December 16, 2000
This review is from: Bb Queen (Audio CD)
Bahamadia is probably the best female MC in hip-hop today. Her silky smooth voice melts like butter over every track she blesses.
BBQueen could've scored 5 stars had it been longer. Special Forces kicks things off with an upbeat tempo, and some worthy guest spots courtesy of Rasco, Planet Asia, Chops, & DJ Revolution. Commonwealth addresses some of the "cheap chicks" not only in hip-hop, but in society. One-4-Teen (Funky For You) is one of the smoothest tracks of the year. Philadelphia features a nice vibe and some good harmony courtesy of Dwele. Beautiful Things is yet another standout which showcases her true lyrical talent. And Pep Talk is a mesmerizing track on which she spits rapid-fire over a great beat.
There is not one misguided track on this album, but again, it's just too short. Maybe another 5 or 6 tracks, and this could've easily been a classic.
That said, it's still highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Like Butta ..4.9 stars ..., July 27, 2000
This review is from: Bb Queen (Audio CD)
Bahamadia is back with a nice mix of hip hop, smooth vibes and a little "jungle" on the last track. Representing Philly, you know 'Dia was just saving her ammunition for this next joint to drop. This album does not disappoint, esp. with the lineup that includes: ...Slum Village (BANGIN'! check out their album), DJ Revolution (slicing and dicing), Planet Asia & Rasco (keep your eye out for these Cali cats!) and Chops (of Philly group Mountain Brothers - remember "galaxies" ?)

'Dia's smooth hypnotic delivery comes to the RESCUE for those of us who are tired of female mc's talkin' madness about "their body parts" and "what they're drinking and wearing". In the new millennium, 'Dia reminds us what hip hop is supposed to be and represent - "for the people, by the people". This cd will be blastin' by all types - females, rough necks, purists, club kids, even the R&B crowd - will get something from this disc.

Seems like Good Vibe Recordings is stepping up with the REAL joints (label mates include Spontaneous, Slum Village, Planet Asia) that aspire to take hip hop back to the days to REAL LYRICISTS, madd head bobbin beats, and tight productions.

One complaint ......album has only 7 tracks -- I need more !
