Best Comedian Ever!!!,
By
This review is from: Be-Be's Kids (Audio CD)
I bought this back in the day in the form of a cassette. In an effort to continually update my cassettes to CDs, I bought this CD. I hadn't listened for a few years but it is still as funny as ever. If you were too young to know about Robin Harris or never took the time out to listen to him before he past away, I would highly recommend it. Although I'm a fan of Richard Pryor and Eddie Murphy, Robin is one of the best that I've heard. He is right up there with the GREAT ONES!

The funniest album from one of the funniest comedians of all time,
By
This review is from: Be-Be's Kids (Audio CD)
The first time I ever saw Robin Harris do stand up on a cable special I laughed so hard I was crying. I had never laughed like that before and I am still laughing at his jokes to this day. Robin Harris is a tell it like it is, pull no punches comedian. In my opinion he is one of the funniest comedians of all time and it is shame that his career was cut short due to his death and that this is the only album he ever made. But we do have this album to remember him by. And this album will make you laugh until your sides hurt. This album was recorded in an actual comedy club and when you listen to it, it feels like you are in the club, in the audience with Robin Harris up on the stage. Harris even goes as far as to rip on hecklers in the audience. This is a very funny comedy album and I cannot recommend it enough. If he had still been alive I have no doubt that Robin Harris would have been one of the 'Original Kings of Comedy' because he truly was just that, a King of Comedy.

This Man Was FUNNY!!,

This is quite possibly the funniest stand-up routine I've ever heard! This classic recording made from 2 separate performances in late 1989 and early 90 shows Robin Harris at the top of his game and reminds me of the genius we lost far too soon to heart failure. Harris comes out punching before the first bell, berating an audience member about his weight and eating habits, leading into an all out attack on fat people and overeaters thats so politically incorrect it ought to be against the law! His next bit about streey beggars is even funnier (..."don't you hate to get gas? brotha' man, brotha man!") and will have gasping for breathe at his reply to strangers asking for money. Another highlight of this white-hot set is his description of how Blacks are treated on Airlines, and even includes a bit on "people with Q-Tips on thier heads" flying on airplanes and "hijacking us" which now, in the aftermath of Sept.11, sounds even more relevant than a decade ago when this was recorded, how creepy is that? There's really not a wasted moment on "BeBe's Kids", even when the pace lags a little in the final 3rd, Harris' interaction with the audience keeps things funny and his method of handling hecklers is brilliant, profane and hysterical. Not for the fainthearted or easily offended, this live performance still stands as a testament to the late Robin Harris' genius. Indespensible.

The first time I saw Robin Harris on HBO, I laughed so hard I couldn't breathe,

I agree with the other posters that Robin Harris is one of the funniest standup comedians ever. Period. I first came across him when I watched his HBO One Night Stand performance. I literally laughed so hard I had trouble catching my breath. Unfortunately, we don't have much of his work available. There's this CD, his performance in Spike Lee's movies, and a posthumous version of Bebe's Kids in a watered down animated version. If you want to watch Robin deliver some of his routine, watch House Party. In his role as Pops, he uses some of his lines from this Bebe's Kids CD in his running monolgue as he goes looking for Play near the middle of the House Party movie. I wish HBO would release his One Night Stand performance on DVD!

Bebe's Kids is the best stand up routine delivered by the best comedian ever. The album is hilarious on first listen, but it only gets better the more you hear it. Nobody could deliver a joke/story like Robin Harris. He really tries to get the audience involved in the routine which makes the listener feel like he/she is part of the audience. Bebe's Kids is filled with quotable lines that you will mentally retrieve in many life situations. Listen to this with a friend or group of friends and you'll have countless inside jokes afterwards. His commentary on sex, relationships, marriage, parenting, racism, economics, sports and celebrity give the album a wide variety of subject matter. He covers so many different topics that you get the feeling he could make a joke about anything. My favorite part is when he talks about going to see the Lakers and Clippers in LA. "I was sitting up so high, the concession man wouldn't even come up there." Going to church with Tiny was another good one. Most of his dealings with the audience were also LAMO funny. It was unfortunate that he past away a few years later. But at least he left us with this comic masterpiece.

I bought this on tape years ago and some how lost track of it the person I loaned it to swears they gave it back to me, and I have been searching for a copy for years. I found it on amazon and I was so happy. Robin Harris is over the top funny I listen to this in my car and I know people think that I am in sane because I am just falling over laughing. Robin is funny without being to vulgar and his comedy is features experiences that we all can relate to. Had he not died he would have been one of the funniest men in comedy and no doubt part of the Kings of Comedy.

Highly Entertaining,

Robin Harris was extremely hilarious. He could pick people out of the audience and incorporates them into his stand-up routine. He starts roasting a fat guy as soon as he comes out. "You'se a big Mothaf***a, Man. You're the type of guy who walk into a restraunt and orders everthing on the menu except, 'Thank you please come again.'" As hilarious as that joke was, it's only the first one on the album, but it sets the pace for the rest of the album. I couldn't help but love his one liners, catch phrases, and his hilarious stories. He's a little hard to understand at times because of his thick African accent, but if you listen close you can understand him. This is Harris's one and only comedy album because he died of heart failure. If you like to laugh until tears run down your face, then I highly recommend Robin Harris's "Be-Be's Kids."

Robin Harris' Best CD Ever,
By A Customer
This review is from: Be-Be's Kids (Audio CD)
Ever since I first saw Robin Harris on TV, I loved his comedy to death. I was just a kid back then. When I saw the CD at the store, I was lucky enough to buy it because it was the only one there. I play it at home and at work and be rolling. Unfortunately, I couldn't believe he died, but his comedy lives on and on. I strongly advise that everyone get this CD because it is his best work. I LOVE IT!!

Easily The Greatest Comedian Ever,
By
This review is from: Be-Be's Kids (Audio CD)
I'm an avid, faithful longtime fan of great comedians. I was a standup comic for a little over 3 yrs, and boy was it fun. I enjoy all types of genresof comedy, whether it be "black" or "white" comedy. The all-time greats.. R.Pryor,R.Dangerfeild,E.Murphy,G.Carlin,B.Cosby, and I can go on 4ever I have all of their respective albums/cds. So, with that being said, I'll now proceed to type this bold statement.. Robin Harris IS & WAS THE GREATEST STANDUP COMEDIAN TO EVER HAVE LIVED. He is the James Dean of comedy, a talent of which is so undeniable but yet happened to be unfulfilled do to tradgedy. At the time of this release.. Robin Harris was dead, but the producers of the album finished |
