5.0 out of 5 stars This should be required reading for corporate America
I really enjoyed this book. It is full of examples that will help you through most of the writing challenges that you face on the job, and a few that will make daily life a little easier. The authors explain the pitfalls of writing and how to avoid them with such candor and humor, that I found myself laughing out loud.

As soon as you read this book,...

1.0 out of 5 stars Utter Garbage.
I am a professional writer and writing teacher. I bought this book when it was recommended in the Chicago Tribune. Clearly, whoever chose it for the Trib has a personal relation ship with the authors, as do the above, highly suspect reviewers and "likers." It contains no new or truly relevant information. The "good writing" examples are as bad as the "bad writing"...

I bought this book for my daughter, but couldn't resist reading through it myself first. It explains the mechanics of writing very well and should really help those who freeze up when required to compose a letter, memorandum, e-mail etc. My employer required all managers to take a multi-day training with Jane Curry and I think we all came away better for it. I'm so glad that she and Diana wrote this book for those who cannot get to a training.

Wit, wisdom, and a dose of irreverence make this book a great read for anyone interested in high-impact business writing. Filled with humorous stories and examples, the authors demonstrate the power of clear, concise messages and share techniques to make key points visible at a glance. In 15 years of Corporate Training, I have rarely seen a book that is so prescriptive. Readers can apply these techniques immediately and enhance the impact of their written word. Thanks, Curry & Young, for showing us the way!

Congratulations to Curry and Young in filling a big need in the world of managerial and technical communications. The problems highlighted in this book are real and easily addressed with the right training and guidance. I have used Curry's services in my businesses and was delighted to see Curry and Young's pointers shared in this important book. As a career management consultant, I recommend this book to any consulting team looking to quickly improve the quality, efficiency, and impact of it's written deliverables.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very helpful, July 26, 2011

This book will not turn you into Shakespeare. What it will do, however, is teach you to get to the point. The concepts are simple and easy to apply. I certainly found this beneficial.

I am a professional writer and writing teacher. I bought this book when it was recommended in the Chicago Tribune. Clearly, whoever chose it for the Trib has a personal relation ship with the authors, as do the above, highly suspect reviewers and "likers." It contains no new or truly relevant information. The "good writing" examples are as bad as the "bad writing" examples. It is repetitive and stupid. The only attempt at creativity is snarkiness. I can usually appreciate a book even if I get only one useful nugget of information from it. Unfortunately, not a single nugget is to be found in this waste of money. Has Ten Speed just started publishing vanity press stuff or what? There are many great books about writing in the world. Don't waste your money on this one.
