Here is truly one of gospel music's outstanding vocalists and in my opinion, one who has yet to achieve the recognition he deserves. In fact, leading up to this project's release date, there was very little elaboration, if any, about it. Though I knew about his forthcoming CD, for many it just happened to show up on music store shelves one Tuesday in July. The album is a...

I would recommend this CD to add to any gospel collection. It is really enjoyable.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Anointed Psalmist !, August 23, 2005
This review is from: Be Exalted (Audio CD)
Brother Marvin does such an extraordinary job of weaving those elaborate melodies with lyrics from Scripture producing a wonderful praise tapestry lifting up the Name of Jesus Christ. The masterfully executed musical complexities engulf you into the praise along with the musicians, I love that. There is such incredible power when the Word of God is put to music! Each selection is a rousing testament to Brother Marvin's deep love for our Lord Jesus and his zeal for Him. Even the prayer of thanks in the CD liner is a blessing. He ministers in such an anointed way on each song with encouragement, exaltation and exhortation--this is the blessing of a psalmist after God's own heart. Rare is the CD that hits the mark on every selection from the top, all 13 tracks! The entire project is infused with anointing from God. "Be It Unto Me"; both mixes of "Do You Know Him?"; the title track "Be Exalted"; "Perfect Peace"; "That Name"; "Strong Tower" all thrust this project into the "must have this in your collection" category. I will be recommending it highly to all my family and friends. I can see this project being an award winner. Praise God for you Brother Marvin and for your being obedient to allowing the Holy Ghost to move through your ministry to the glory of God. May Jesus forever BE EXALTED!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Preacher that Sangs, August 6, 2005
This review is from: Be Exalted (Audio CD)
Although this cd didn't grab me like "Diary of a Psalmist". Because, if he sings it, I buy it. But, after hearing him sing 3 cuts (2, 5, & 6) live on the day of the release. I remember saying...I don't remember hearing that song. I have to say I had to go back and listen again. Man I was blown away. I must agree, he does his best work live. Although the majority of this cd is studio work his vocal work is on overtime. The background singers are good too. They attempt a live feel on some of the songs. I really don't think he has a traditional or contemporary style...it's just Marvin. Thats the one thing I love about him. He can take any song and make it his own...If you've ever heard him sing Fred Hammonds "No Weapon". You'd think he originally sang it. In addition to that, he ministers the word of God through song. And although it may not be in "choir rotation" it surely will get radio rotation. This cd is HOT. His remake of "Perfect Peace" #6 is heaven sent and is a sermon all by itself. And #9 "That Name" it has a caribbean feel, he is singing his face off. #12 "He Won't Fail" this is a song of hope and faith...he reminds you that God won't fail. Those three have to be my favorite on the entire cd. But the other songs I really love are 1,2,3,4,5,8, & 10 . They are well written, produced and sang You will surely be blessed! I've allowed friends (saved and unsaved) to listen and purchased additonal copies to give out and and they love it.

The album is a blend of Praise and Worship, along with Ballads and Holy Ghost Funk. Marvin enlists a who's who of writers on this effort, including Aaron Lindsey, Tommie Walker, Steve White, Israel Houghton and Percy Bady. I especially enjoyed the foot stomper, "Do you know him?", the Latin flavored mover, "That Name" and Dr. Sapp's take of the Rudolph Standfield classic, "Perfect Peace," produced by Donald Lawrence. "Be Exalted" is signature Marvin Sapp and for those who are already
a part of his growing fan base - you will not be disappointed.

When I heard Perfect Peace I could have cried because I loved that song as a child, but I never knew who sang it originally. Marvin Sapp sings it just the way I remembered it as a child.

5.0 out of 5 stars Authored By God, March 14, 2007

Thank you for this opportunity to be a voice for what I believe is a CD that was authored by God. There is a lot of gospel music out there, that only exalts the artist, and the people involved in the production of the CD, but I believe that Marvin Sapp uses those that want to touch the heart of God.
Thank you Marvin, for your awesome obedience and anointed talent.

4.0 out of 5 stars Former commissioned member Marvin Sapp releases `BE EXALTED' on VERITY records, October 9, 2006
This review is from: Be Exalted (Audio CD)
This time round Marvin comes with a mixture of live, live sounding and studio tracks.

The 13-track album is musician heaven. This album will defiantly please those who are into music and its intricacies.
The album has a very nice start with "Be it unto Me" an up beat praise and worship song. This is one of the high moments of the album along with "Do You know Him" "Changed" "Holy" and many more.

Marvin takes a different approach to this album a moves away from the contemporary feel that he normally basis his albums around. This time he seems to doing a more `church' but don't get me wrong he still keeps it innovative.

The slow songs on the albums are very reminiscent of Fred Hammond. It is very clear to see that he was a part of the gospel super group Commissioned. Marvin also has some really nice feel good songs on this album such as "Smile." There are also some heart felt moments with songs like "He want fail"

Overall it's a nice but it does seem to lose some steam towards the end. After such a strong starts it does fall off slightly at the end. Saving grace comes in the form of "Strong Tower" another live song with some really nice grooves.

"Be exalted" is defiantly one Marvin's best musical albums to date and one of the top three albums he has done

This review is from: Be Exalted (Audio CD)
This CD has a different feel than the usual Marvin Sapp CD due to the various producers on call. The album has good material but does not seem to find its seam in the fabric of musical tone. Nevertheless, there are some gems, such as 'Be Exalted, and Do you know Him.'

3.0 out of 5 stars Diferent writers...Different producers...Mixed results, August 1, 2005

This review is from: Be Exalted (Audio CD)
Marvin Sapp is my absolute favorite gospel artist... Thus, it pains me to write a less than stellar review...but I must be honest. The best song on this album is clearly "He Won't Fail" penned by Percy Bady, the mastermind behind the Sapp hit "Grace and Mercy" (Bady also wrote six on the songs on the "Grace and Mercy" album with the rest written by Marvin Winans)and co-produced on that fabulous album.

Noticeably absent from this album is also production and writing by Kevin Bond who produced and arranged most of "Diary of a Psalmist" and wrote a number of songs on that awesome album. "Be Exalted" clearly has some gospel heavyweights such as D'Lawrence, Israel Houghton and Steve "Supe" White penning tracks for Sapp, but their sound and writing does not fit Marvin's voice and delivery style.

Marvin has mastered being semi-traditional, while impossing an urban and modern sound. Because of the richness of his voice, he does not sound good when he attempts to sing contemporary gospel (this is also true for ...Men of Standards, Darwin Hobbs and Fred Hammond). It's like having Mahalia Jackson sing a Tonex track. It just doesn't work. Marvin should know better, because his previous contemporary offering "Nothing Else Matters" produced by Fred Hammond was a serious dissappointment.

Nonetheless, there are some enjoyable moments on this CD, but I have to admit that I cannot imagine that many, if any of these tracks will find their way into gospel choir rotations.
