About the Author

Growing up in sisters in a large family in Inglewood, California, Erica and Tina Campbell first sang publicly in the local church choir and received their first break in 1998 with a song on the Prince of Egypt soundtrack. Now, they are three-time Grammy winners--their most recent being their 2009 win was for Best Gospel Performance for their hit single, "Get Up."  They are also Dove, Stellar, MOBO, and American Music Award winners. Their group name was inspired by the two Marys in the Bible--Mary, the mother of Jesus, and Mary Magdalene, a "loose" woman. Mary Mary wants their duo name to communicat that God's love is extended to all. This R&B, urban gospel duo performs for audiences of thousands across the country.

I really loved the title of the book so I purchased one for me and a friend. It is a nice workbook to help you really think about your relationship with GOD and others.

I saw Tina Campbell (the red-haired sister) on The Mo'Nique Show to promote this book, and have heard both sisters on radio interviews too---they are always on point. I liked Be U, and it's a very easy to read for all ages. The sisters cleverly use their song titles for their chapter themes, and the chapters feature their personal experiences, and are brief enough to read quickly, but get their point across.

The downsides to the book for me were: (1) The Q&A chapter lacked questions about practical, youth-friendly issues, and had a few typos, and (2) I don't recall the mention of exactly how to get saved and invite Jesus to become your personal Lord and Savior (a sample prayer could have been suggested). I think this book assumes that every young person who picks it up is "churched" and understands terms like "grace" and so on.

Be U is a nice overview for youth who want to or need to begin developing a personal quiet time of devotion with God, but it stops just short of me rating it as 5 stars. I have a little more to say about this book--if you want to read the review in its entirety, check out my blog.

This is a great book for young girls ages 12-25. I enjoyed reading it, but couldn't help thinking that the age group it will reach clearer will be young women
