A lot of POW!!,

Nobody does better what Rob Marshall does. He did it with "Chicago," which was just nonstop POW!! And to a somewhat lesser extent, he's done it with "Nine," a musical that's nowhere near the quality of "Chicago," has nowhere near the quality of musical score, but has the mesmerizing performance by Daniel Day-Lewis and a super cast of women, all of whom get their moments to shine on the screen. Perhaps Judi Dench sings the only "memorable" song from the original score, but Kate Hudson's number is a knockout; and Penolope Cruz proves herself very deserving of her Academy Award nomination. And what a treat it is to see Sophia Loren back on the screen, playing Guido's mother. She remains, in her 70's, extraordinarily beautiful. "Nine" did not enjoy the reception, on its release, that "Chicago" did; and perhaps, as a somewhat mediocre musical originally, it didn't deserve the acclaim; but Rob Marshall has taken less than top notch material and has fashioned a top notch cinema event with the materials at hand and the lovely ladies he worked with and a leading man for whom we do have some sympathy...he just loves the ladies and can't help himself because of it. Enjoy the movie for what it is...a really spectacular piece of entertainment.
