An AWESOME book for Jewish women., September 19, 2005
When I began exploring Judaism, having grown up as a secular Jew, I had issues with what I thought were Judaism's conceptions of Jewish women. As an independent, educated and vocal person, I was nervous about entering into a society that I thought wouldn't support the kind of woman I am. Boy, was I wrong. Thanks to this wonderful book, I was able to learn how Judaism REALLY approaches women.
This book gave me the "permission" to continue on my quest to live a full Jewish life, knowing that women are respected and even revered in Judaism, and that all the traits of power and strength that I had, were a big thumbs up in Judaism, not the opposite.
I recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn about women in Judaism, to any woman who is looking to love Judaism and fully join her people.
Do yourself a favor - read this book.

Can help you become a more observant Jewish woman., November 28, 1999
This review is from: To Be a Jewish Woman (Paperback)
"To Be a Jewish Woman" is a beginner's guide to the ideas and building blocks for becoming more observant. It touches on all the major issues: women's mitzvot, separate prayer for men and women, modesty, family purity. It will NOT tell you exactly how to keep the laws, for example, this is not the definitive source on kashrus or family purity. Read it with an open mind. Much may offend you, but there is much to learn. An excellent companion book is "To be a Jewish Feminist."
