Heartwarming Like the Movie, It Needs a Prospector's Patience,

This review is from: Be Kind Rewind (Audio CD)
'Be Kind, Rewind,' is heartwarming, implausible, but nourishing to watch. To linger in the memories or pick up some song gems, this C.D. soundtrack will do you no harm. There's outstanding material mixed with some ho-hum music, but variety is plentiful in this patchy offering, nevertheless. With today's technology, you can always sort out the difference between music and muzak using an I-Pod, MP3 Player, or just burn your own highlights on a personal use C.D. Consisting of mostly instrumentals, composer Jean-Michel Bernard does best when he relies on Ragtime jazz piano, befitting the movie's spirit. Distilling this form, he delivers a fine version of "I Ain't Got Nobody," easily the best of the four presented. More piano fine-tuning treatment comes with "Solitude". Laying out the scenes, his original "Little Mikey" is good for suspense, and "I'm Bill" is properly playful. Fats Waller, himself shows up here with two of the greatest highlights, "Ain't Misbehavin'" and "Your Feets Too Big". Then, "Daisy's Drive" nearly matches the spirit of the best songs. Mos Def is better on DVD than he is on C.D., but his renditions on a few numbers won't offend anybody. "Mr. Fletcher's Song" and "Sunny Monday" by Booker T. and the M.G.'s rounds out the good stuff. The rest you have to sort yourself, but with twenty-eight songs, the rest of the C.D. consists of average material. The soundtrack's centerpiece is Billy Preston's "Nothing from Nothing," featured in my video. Just like the soundtrack, I try to capture the spirit of the movie. ;>) JP (I hope it doesn't stretch "Fair Use" statutes by giving a sampler. I have shortened it in hopes it won't violate copyright statutes to which I've agreed to adhere. Respectfully, JP)

After seeing The independent film "Be Kind, Rewind" I knew I had to have the music. The Music is based on "Fats Waller's songs and the CD even includes a re recording of his.
