More About the Author

Hi Readers! Thanks for coming by my author page. I've written all sorts of books - from fantasy about animals to books about science. One of my favorite animal fantasy series, Guardians of Ga'Hoole, is a major motion picture. I liked writing about Ga'Hoole so much that I decided to revisit that world in a new series, Wolves of the Beyond. Visit my website, www.kathrynlasky.com to see a slide show about the real wolves I researched for the series and for the latest update on the Guardians of Ga'Hoole movie. All my best, Kathryn

5.0 out of 5 stars To Be A King Reviewed by: Soren, September 8, 2006
A Kid's Review
The final legend. That's what To Be A King is. The final legend in the three that Soren, Coryn, the Band, & Otulissa have to read. In this book, they find a world of magic & chaos. Lord Arrin's forces of hagsfiends have split, forming other groups off nachtmagen. Rumors about a group of all hagsfiends led by Lord Arrin's old assassin, Ullryck, have been brought to the attention of the new King Hoole & Grank. They have just recently set up a new order called the Guardians of Ga'Hoole in the enormous tree which has come to be known as the Great Ga'Hoole Tree. There is also another rumor of a mad owl that has taken control of the Ice Palace in the N'yrthghar with his young hagsfiends. Soon, Hoole realizes, the forces of good will clash with the evil forces of nachtmagen. Hoole has the Ember, but to use it could be dangerous. So Hoole must make a choice-use the power of the Ember to restore the Ice Palace to it's former glory, or to let things go on without the strange, mysterious magic that is the Ember of Hoole.

So, along with the Band & Otulissa, Soren & Coryn read the final legend, and see what the future has in store for the Guardians of Ga'Hoole.

5.0 out of 5 stars To Be a King, November 11, 2006
A Kid's Review
Now that Hoole has found the owl ember and set up an order of free owls at the Great Ga'Hoole Tree, he must prepare to face the forces of darkness massing on the horizon. Hagsfiends and enemy warlords have set out to kill the young king, and Hoole must decide whether to use the magic of the ember in battle against them.

This is not the only problem facing Hoole in his darkest hour, as the hagsfiend Ullryck has formed an alliance of only hagsfiends. And as if things could not get any worse, an insane Great Horned Owl named Shadyk has usurped good King H'rath's throne.

Can Hoole defeat the nachtmagen of the hagsfiends and restore peace to the N'yrthghar? Find out in this thrilling installment of the Guardians of Ga'Hoole series, which will leave readers on the edge waiting for Book Twelve: The Golden Tree.

5.0 out of 5 stars Guardians of Ga'hoole series, January 3, 2007
I began to buy Kathryn Lasky's "Guardians" series for my 12 year old granddaughter trying to find something to spark her interest in reading. She really did not read for pleasure very much. This series and the "Warriors" series written by Erin Hunter have made a reader out of her. She can't wait until the next books come out! I am very thankful for this because I love books and the children today have so much TV and computer things to do, lots of them do not take time to read books.
