To Be A King Reviewed by: Soren,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: To Be a King (Guardians of Ga'hoole, Book 11) (Paperback)
The final legend. That's what To Be A King is. The final legend in the three that Soren, Coryn, the Band, & Otulissa have to read. In this book, they find a world of magic & chaos. Lord Arrin's forces of hagsfiends have split, forming other groups off nachtmagen. Rumors about a group of all hagsfiends led by Lord Arrin's old assassin, Ullryck, have been brought to the attention of the new King Hoole & Grank. They have just recently set up a new order called the Guardians of Ga'Hoole in the enormous tree which has come to be known as the Great Ga'Hoole Tree. There is also another rumor of a mad owl that has taken control of the Ice Palace in the N'yrthghar with his young hagsfiends. Soon, Hoole realizes, the forces of good will clash with the evil forces of nachtmagen. Hoole has the Ember, but to use it could be dangerous. So Hoole must make a choice-use the power of the Ember to restore the Ice Palace to it's former glory, or to let things go on without the strange, mysterious magic that is the Ember of Hoole. So, along with the Band & Otulissa, Soren & Coryn read the final legend, and see what the future has in store for the Guardians of Ga'Hoole.

To Be a King,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: To Be a King (Guardians of Ga'hoole, Book 11) (Paperback)
Now that Hoole has found the owl ember and set up an order of free owls at the Great Ga'Hoole Tree, he must prepare to face the forces of darkness massing on the horizon. Hagsfiends and enemy warlords have set out to kill the young king, and Hoole must decide whether to use the magic of the ember in battle against them. This is not the only problem facing Hoole in his darkest hour, as the hagsfiend Ullryck has formed an alliance of only hagsfiends. And as if things could not get any worse, an insane Great Horned Owl named Shadyk has usurped good King H'rath's throne. Can Hoole defeat the nachtmagen of the hagsfiends and restore peace to the N'yrthghar? Find out in this thrilling installment of the Guardians of Ga'Hoole series, which will leave readers on the edge waiting for Book Twelve: The Golden Tree.

Guardians of Ga'hoole series,
By
This review is from: To Be a King (Guardians of Ga'hoole, Book 11) (Paperback)
I began to buy Kathryn Lasky's "Guardians" series for my 12 year old granddaughter trying to find something to spark her interest in reading. She really did not read for pleasure very much. This series and the "Warriors" series written by Erin Hunter have made a reader out of her. She can't wait until the next books come out! I am very thankful for this because I love books and the children today have so much TV and computer things to do, lots of them do not take time to read books.

A Well-written Book, Some Errors,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: To Be a King (Guardians of Ga'hoole, Book 11) (Paperback)
I liked To Be A King, but I didn't love it. In the copy I got, there were quite a few errors, and Mrs. Lasky didn't tie up all of the loose ends as effectively as in her previous books. The things I liked about this book in particular were the creative new characters, a new romance, and Hoole's transition from being a chick to an adult, from being a follower to a leader. Part of the book centers on the forces of evil (Pleek, Ygryk, Kreeth, and Lutta, Pleek and Ygryk's "daughter"), while the other part centers on the newly formed Guardians of Ga'Hoole. In this book, the Guardians of Ga'Hoole are founded, and the final battle for the N'rythghar is waged. While King Hoole reigns over the S'rthgahr, chaos runs rampant in the N'rythghar. Lord Arrin is ammassing an army for a final invasion, while kraals, Ullryck's hagsfiend troops, and a mad upstart owl's forces fight for the spoils. King Hoole must also form an army before Short Light, or lose all hope of ever reclaiming his father's throne. Hoole gains new allies: Strix Strumajen the Spotted Owl, Sir Bors the Barn Owl, Sir Tobyfor the Northern Hawk Owl, Lord Rathnik the Snowy Owl, and many others. New, dark forces also lurk, preparing to strike and steal the Ember of Hoole: the archfiend Kreeth, and the changeling bird Lutta. Lutta transforms into Emerilla, Strix Strumajen's lost daughter, in order to gain Hoole's trust and steal the Ember. But Lutta finds something much more than just the Ember... There are also deaths in To Be A King, but nothing too disappointing. Basically, the entire book explains how the Guardians of Ga'Hoole came to be. But there were some problems in the book. Some parts were poorly edited, and had many errors. At the end, it was unclear whether or how Lord Arrin, Ullryck, and Shadyk were defeated and/or killed. Sure, Hoole and the Guardians triumphed, but the whole battle was mostly vague. Other than that, To Be A King is a great ending for the Legends triolgy and provides some insight on Book 12, The Golden Tree. I would reccommend this book to fantasy lovers.

Guardians of Ga'Hoole is a wonderful series,
This review is from: To Be a King (Guardians of Ga'hoole, Book 11) (Paperback)
I have ordered every book in this series for a "non-reader" who will put off playing PS2 for the newest book. The author has hit a note with the pre-teen/13 year boys that hate to read the usual girl books suggested by school. Keep them coming. I thank the author for finding an new niche for which there is a great need. I strongly recommend this book and the others in the series for kids that like sci-fi/fantasy without the tekno beat.

Great book!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: To Be a King (Guardians of Ga'hoole, Book 11) (Paperback)
In To Be a King, Hoole must fight against the odds in a battle in which enemy war lords are amassing armies of hagsfeinds and owls. A mad owl named Shadyk is amassing an army of young hagsfeinds, as is a hagsfeind named Ullryk, Lord Arinn's assasin. In the book, Hoole must decide to use the magic of the ember to restore N'yrthghar. It is a very thrilling book in the series of Guardians of Ga'hoole.

To Be a King,

This review is from: To Be a King (Guardians of Ga'hoole) (Hardcover)
Young King Hoole has now founded the Great Ga'hoole tree where deserving owls may come to share knowledge and skills. However, there is still trouble in the north and rumours of hagsfiends in the south. Hoole has decided to wait no longer and attack first to clear the owl kingdoms of hagsfiends and their evil magic once and for all. This last of the legends stories was full of action, and provides a background to the powers and risks of the ember. Great story, and now I'm ready to get back to reading about Soren and Coryn and the new adventures of the tree.
