I wish they had a 10-star option to rate the book; I'd choose 12, January 9, 2006
This review is from: To Be Me: Understanding What It's Like to Have Asperger's Syndrome (Hardcover)
To Be Me has been such an incredible gift to my son's classroom... the effects of providing such an warm, beautifully written and illustrated book have been amazing. Since I bought it and gave it to my son's teacher, the children have really seemed to understand his Asperger's a little bit better. They have even have been behaving a little bit more like compassionate people. This book is so important for teachers and for students, I strongly recommend buying a copy to share with others.

To Be Me sets itself apart from other books of this subject because it truly talks to children. The narrator of the book is another child, making this book inviting, comfortable, and fun for kids and adults. Children with Asperger's Syndrome as well as classmates, friends, parents, teachers, doctors, and all readers can be touched by the book's wonderful illustrations, verbiage, and overall positive message.

A Staff Favorite!, January 17, 2007
This review is from: To Be Me: Understanding What It's Like to Have Asperger's Syndrome (Hardcover)
This colorfully illustrated book is about a boy named David, who has Asperger Syndrome (AS). Told from David's point of view, the story focuses on his social difficulties, as he struggles to fit in with his classmates at school. After receiving a diagnosis of AS, David begins to understand his own differences and the differences of others, and he learns to accept himself. He also describes his own unique characteristics, and he provides helpful tips for typical students who have classmates with AS. We absolutely love this book, and we recommend it frequently to our customers. The artwork is fantastic and the story is very engaging. This is a wonderful book for parents, siblings, friends and family, but especially for my son who was recently diagnosed with Asperger's. This book helped him to feel like he was not strange and that there are other kid's just like him. We are very happy to have this book. I would highly recommend it!

To Be Me: Understanding What It's Like to Have Asperger's Syndrome, May 11, 2007
This review is from: To Be Me: Understanding What It's Like to Have Asperger's Syndrome (Hardcover)
I was a little disapointed in this purchase. At a cost of $30 it really was not what I was hoping for. It seemed overly simplified and did not really give much information on the subject. I was hoping for a resource I could send to camp with my son this summer that would not be too long and in depth with the medical termonology, but would be descriptive and helpful to the camp councelor and director. I had hoped for a little more description of some of the comon behaviors and why these kids do the things that they do, and some suggestions for how to help.
