5.0 out of 5 stars A book to save for your own kids.
Very well-written. I just wish I had found books like this and other Jane McFann books when I was a teen. I will save it for my daughter. Jane McFann was my English teacher at Glasgow H.S. in Newark, Delaware over 20 years ago. I keep up with all her books and love reading them -- and I'm no teen anymore! This particular one is great in the suspense department. You...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a Very Thrilling Book!
I really didn't find this book to be that scary or thrilling. Sure, there was some suspense in it, but the ending just took a lot of it out. If you want to read a scary, thrilling, or suspenseful book, read something by R.L. Stine!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book, July 8, 1999

This book rocks!! It's really funny and scary at the same time. Jane McFann really knows how to use humor in these types of books. Both the characters are really good although I am only on Chapter 22 and I started reading this book yesterday ... I still don't know who is the bad guy and it's getting suspenseful. I recommend this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Be Mine . . . Or Else, March 7, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Be Mine (Point) (Mass Market Paperback)
While most Scholastic Thrillers are very bloody and/or suspenseful (take R. L. Stine, for example, who has contributed a lot to this line of teen thrillers), "Be Mine" barely makes it into either category. The front cover is certainly misleading with a knife stabbing a cherry-flavored piece of chocolate, since there's no real bloodshed or violence in the story (though the protagonist does get some bad rope burns), which makes "Be Mine" ideal for those who are just starting to get into suspense books. It's also an unusual addition to this imprint because of its length. Typically Scholastic Thrillers are just under 200 pages, but this one is 245 pages long, which might be a turn-off to those who aren't willing to read an additional 50 pages.

The book revolves around 18-year-old Bethany Anderson, a senior in Delaware, who has a secret admirer that has been leaving her red heart stickers and roses in her locker and at her home, as well as calling her in the middle of the night. Who he is is impossible to figure out, despite his occasional first-person narratives, but "Be Mine" is still a great young adult book. It has plenty of humor, courtesy of Bethany's sex-crazed boyfriend (Starling is definitely my favorite character in here, though Bethany is just as likable and intelligent), and will certainly appeal to teen readers who like low-key suspense, but aren't into all the gore that typically goes along with it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very interesting.., November 18, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Be Mine (Point) (Mass Market Paperback)
I think this book has a very unique edge to it.. The plot to it is definitley something that R.L. Stine might have thought of, actually one of his books has a similar topic. This book is about a girl named Bethany that has a boyfriend that sometimes she just can't get rid of and she keeps finding things that a 'Secret Admirer' left her such as tiny hearts that are glued to her door and he even knows her locker combination.. It may seem sweet but after a while it frightens Bethany because the admirer even breaks into her house and glues hearts to her bathroom mirror! It's not such of a scary story, but the words and phrases used in it will catch your eye such as 'Love you.. To to death'. I love the way the secret admirer talks in the end of chapters and tells the reader what he feels every time. It was somewhat boring too because a lot of the time it just dragged on about the same thing for a while.. That's one reason I gave it a 4. But overall, this book is interesting and it WILL catch your eye.. Especially the cover, very cool.

The book Be Mine is an very interesting. Because she has an admirer then the admirer trys to kill her.The part that i liked most was that the admirer knew where her locker was without her telling him.

I had Ms. McFann for high school english and this book brought back alot of memories!! No events in the book didn't take place in my high school, but the characters remind me of some of the people from Honors.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book, November 24, 1998

This book had great combination of elements: humor, sensitivity, and true suspence. I read through this one in a day, I simply couldn't put it down. I just learned that there are more books with Starling and Bethany, and I plan to read them all!!
