5.0 out of 5 stars Characters shine through in this excellent novel
I freely admit that I got weird looks while skimming this book in the bookshop. That's because I was laughing my butt off during the first chapter because Beau Dupre was such a typical American male. Thank God! At last someone has the guts to write a man with foibles other than an inability to trust!

This book has excellent dialogue and an intriguing plot. More...

3.0 out of 5 stars A bit disconnected, difficult to stay with...
This is my first Susan Andersen book, I think I'll try her others... I thought her leading man (Beau) was lacking, and personally can do without the "F-word" in romance writing. Steamy is good (especially in New Orleans) but does he have to throw the word around as much as he does? I thought the character development was weak, the development of intrigue...

More than that, the characters have depth. I really adored Juliet Rose Astor Lowell because of her wide-eyed naivete when faced with the seedier sections of New Orleans. Her innocent sensuality is such a wonderful foil for Beau's in-your-face sexual aggressiveness. Juliet can definitely hold her own.

Beware, the sex scenes are too good to read just once, and if your husband ever whispered or thought any of the things that Beau does, you'd be in trouble. (You know, the kind of "Let's-call-in-sick-and-do-it-until-Hannukah" type of trouble.)

Enjoy this novel. It's great for a summer read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting and very sexy, November 12, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Be My Baby (Mass Market Paperback)
I have to say, this book was better than "Baby, I'm Yours". The characters were well developed and the plot had a lot of suspense that made it hard to put the book down. The scenes between Beau and Juliet were very steamy and it made you want to finish the book to see if they were going to stay together. A must-read!

5.0 out of 5 stars What a Book!!, February 17, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Be My Baby (Mass Market Paperback)
After reading Baby I'm Yours I became a true Susan Anderden fan. Her style is so wonderfully original, that I had to read anything of hers that I could find. When Be My Baby came out I went straight to the store and bought it. I started it that night and finished it the following morning. I adored it!! It was even better than Baby I'm Yours. Juliet and Beau were delightful characters as were the others in the book. Their chemistry is perfect and they complement each other so very well. I love New Orleans, so that the book was set there was another plus. Only the background of N'Awlins could possibly carry off this plot so pefectly. This is by far one of the best books I have ever had the pleasure of reading. READ IT, if you haven't already!!!!! Also check out Baby I'm Yours!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Steamy & hot with wonderful local dialect, December 2, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Be My Baby (Mass Market Paperback)
This was a page turner & a keeper. The New Orleans accent was "dead on" and I'm amazed at how well the author conveyed it. The back of the book gave no indication that she was from New Orleans, but she must have lived there to have it down so well. I get so tired of books portraying the accent wrong. (Can you tell I'm originally from New Orleans?)

4.0 out of 5 stars Funny but a Little Contrived, April 30, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Be My Baby (Mass Market Paperback)
Susan Andersen has a real talent with funny situations- the straigt-laced Bostonian dragged through sleaziest strip bars on Bourbon Street, the Panty Snatcher et al, and her visuals on the night life in New Orleans are dead on target, but some of the plot twists in "Be My Baby" seem to be there solely for the sake of "what happens next."

Some of the characters do things that are completely out of character, and the scene on the barge is a real stretch, even for my over-active imagination. And the detective acts like a jerk throughout half the book.

Regardless, the book is an entertaining read if you can get over the lack of plausibility in a couple of the scenes, and I look forward to reading Ms. Andersen's next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny and Engaging, May 31, 2000
This review is from: Be My Baby (Mass Market Paperback)
If you like authors like Susan Elizabeth Phillips, you will also like Susan Andersen. They write very similarly, with the major exception being that while Phillips' heroes are typically either football players or golfers, Andersen's heroes are usually cops or something along that line.

Between this book and Baby I'm Yours, Andersen has gone on my "automatic buy" list. Her writing is marvelous and her characters are very endearing. Overly macho heroes brought to heel by feisty (often mismatched) heroines, hilarious dialogue, & sizzling erotic tension...you gotta love her :)

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME, November 12, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Be My Baby (Mass Market Paperback)
I hardly ever read romance novels and this is my second one I have read and its amamzing. Beaureguard and Juliet are amazing characters. You fall in love with them. They seem so attracted to each other from the beginning. They start out not wanting to be around one another but after the car scene in the rain they can't help but fall for one another. The names that Beau called Julier like Rosebud just makes you heart melt. I love it especiall when Juliet told Beaureguard that she loved him and he got all freaked out. Then I especially loved it when he confessed his love for Juliet. I love this book and I will never get tired of reading it over and over.

4.0 out of 5 stars Typical Andersen..., June 8, 2003
This review is from: Be My Baby (Mass Market Paperback)
Juliet Astor Lowell has a job to do that she's determined to do right. When her father insists on her having a bodyguard from the New Orleans Police Department, after a threatening letter, Juliet agrees with his plans...until she meets her bodyguard. Beau Dupree is the kind of man that Juliet has never been around. He's outrageous, goregous, and outspoken. Nothing like the men that have been in Juliet's life. Soon she realizes that she doesn't want the men she's used to, she wants Beau, but she wonders if she's woman enough to keep him.

Beau Dupree has a personal investment in the case against the 'Panty Snatcher'. When his own sister is victimized, Beau promises himself and his sister that he will catch the pervert who violated her. When he gets ordered on a case to guard Juliet Rose Astor Lowell, he is livid...at first. Then he realizes that there is way more to the prim Juliet than what she shows to people. Beneath her polish and snobby facade is a senuous woman that Beau is determined to uncover.

Andersen gives her normal wacky plot, weaving humorous suspense along with senuous sex between the characters. She also brings us secondary characters that the reader will root for. A good read that you won't regret spending time reading.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Fun Story, April 10, 2002
This review is from: Be My Baby (Mass Market Paperback)
Set in one of my favorite cities New Orleans is the back drop for this witty story of high society Juliet Rose Astor Lowell and NOPD Beau Dupree.

Juliet's father feels that a note that was sent to the family business requires a bodyguard. Juliet does not know this until she lands in New Orleans. Beau is a cop that has raised his three baby sisters. He can hardly wait to get out and date again. Bodyguard duty is the last thing he wants or needs.

The chemistry is great and the story is funny and touching. Worth reading at least once.
