5.0 out of 5 stars Chinese Scarface kill you long time..., November 10, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: To Be Number One (DVD)
This film is essentially the HK version of Scarface with slight remnants of the Stink...oops, i mean Godfather. But from what i have researched (yes, i am a nerd with certain types of films), it is based on a real story of a gangster named Ho.

He's a man with a vision and if you get in his way, awww shucks....He will not be disrespected and will not back down. The dude who plays him is awesome as he snarls like a chinese Billy Idol. It's the mug he poses with on the cover. The flick also has Fatty Cheng, that tubby stalwart of HK cinema (if you're not into Asian films, just look for the fat guy). It's over 2 hours but it moves well.

Amy Yip and those 2 twins hanging off of her chest make it move faster. She's hot....

A lot of folks turn into dopefiends, and that's kinda fun to watch (to me anyway, i guess b/c i live in the BX).

The only beef i have is this:there are transitional scenes that write out what occurs between a 5-10 year period of time and it's all in chinese with NO translation. Since i don't speak chinese, i found this irksome. However, i feel it did not impede the film or story too much, except for the ending.

Do like i did: exploit you chinese speaking friends to fill in the blanks.

I've seen this movie about 5 times now! It's a little long, but never boring!

Shows strategy of being a gangster...
