Book Description

The BE Series Commentary April 23, 1990

Learn to Enjoy Life Amid Its Uncertainties

"To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven" (Ecc. 3:1). King Solomon had every opportunity to examine life and ponder its mysteries and perplexities. He faced the same issues that we all confront daily:

  • The seeming monotony of life . . .
Is life a prison? Can we break out?
  • The vanity of wisdom . . .
    Who can explain life's inconsistencies?
  • The futility of wealth . . .
Why doesn't money solve our problems?
  • The certainty of death . . .
Why not "eat, drink, and be merry?"

Solomon struggled with these crucial questions and came up with the right answers. Ecclesiastes is an inspired road map that guides you through the puzzles and problems of living and shows you the source by which you too may Be Satisfied.

5.0 out of 5 stars this is what a serious Christian should have, April 3, 2000
This review is from: Be Satisfied (Ecclesiastes): Looking for the Answer to the Meaning of Life (The BE Series Commentary) (Paperback)
If you look at the book as O.T. lecture notes, it's not really extraordinary e.g. King Soloman is the author and it's probably written at the end years of the King. If you look for some verse-by-verse commentaries, sorry this is not the book you're looking for. However, if you want application of Ecclesiastes in our times and in your very own life, THIS IS DEFINITELY THE BOOK FOR YOU. Wiersbe discusses why wealth, work, wisdom and enjoyment can't bring us satisfication and draws to the conclusion that only God can satisfy us since God has already put the concept of eternity in our heart and nothing or nobody else can bring us eternity except GOD. This is the book teach you how to *be satisfied*. Bible is not an out-of-date literature; it's our life menu. if you enjoy this book, go buy other's *Be* books from Wiersbe.

3.0 out of 5 stars pretty good, but..., October 14, 2004
This review is from: Be Satisfied (Ecclesiastes): Looking for the Answer to the Meaning of Life (The BE Series Commentary) (Paperback)
I've enjoyed and found useful other books from this series, but when it comes to Ecclesiastes, I think Wiersbe may be missing something.
Much of Christianity is enamored with "positive thinking" and putting the best "Yes, but Jesus Loves Us" spin they can on everything.
Ecclesiastes is a great antidote to that attitude... which may be exactly why so few pastors preach the book and so many commentators have difficulty with it.
The book is not encouraging by any stretch of the imagination, and yet, Wiersbe wants to read it that way.
His understanding of the text is fine, the book provides much useful application, but it fails to enter the mindset of the writer... and if you can't see things from the author's perspective, you're probably going to miss some things.
It's a good, short commentary, but I can only recommend it with reservations. Balance it with something a bit less upbeat.
