The Whistling Wind, May 4, 2006
This review is from: To Be Treated (Audio CD)
This is what people sound like when they channel the sound of wind echoing in a canyon, or more precisely a culvert (the musicians are urban dwellers a lot of the time), through amps and drums. Howly and somber, static with pulsing percussion and then long soars out into the night sky over water. You can't really make out the lyrics, but they're helpfully printed, and it turns out they rigorously and unpretentiously avoid cliches, dancing playfully around their subject matter. Weirdly joyful in its dark opacity. Not for everyone. Their best record yet. A Load stealth-bomb. Few will like this, most will never hear of it, most of those who do will scratch their heads and not buy it. I love this band.
