I was particularly interested to see if we would enjoy putting together a puzzle where we didn't know beforehand what the end result would look like.

I am a huge Sherlock Holmes fan, and I was already very familiar with the Speckled Band mystery that this puzzle is based on.

I just completed this puzzle, and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants an enjoyable challenge! This puzzle has 1,000 pieces, and it is large (it covers about half of my table). I was nervous when I first started putting it together because a picture of the puzzle is not provided. It's a mystery puzzle, and you put the puzzle together to see clues that will help you guess the answer to the mystery. This puzzle comes with a little booklet that contains The Adventure of the Speckled Band story (unabridged, which was a nice surprise). The last part of the story that reveals the solution to the mystery is written backwards, so you can't see the solution unless you hold it up to a mirror. I am a huge Sherlock Holmes fan, and I was already very familiar with the Speckled Band mystery that this puzzle is based on. I'd never solved a puzzle without having a picture to go by, but it wasn't too difficult! In fact, I enjoyed working out the various parts for myself. It's neat and surprising to see what it looks like in the end. This puzzle has a lot of distinctive patterns and objects that make it easy to find which pieces go together. This was an excellent challenge, and it kept me occupied for many days! It's huge, and it'll provide many many hours of fun "puzzling". The end result is GORGEOUS. This is a quality puzzle, the colors looks excellent, and it's well worth the effort.. and the price! I'll be doing this puzzle for many years to come!

This puzzle is well made with differently shaped pieces and very little "puzzle dust." It is interesting to put together as there are so many distinctive and intriguing designs within the puzzle (the puzzle picture is different from the box, as stated). The actual picture did little to help solve the mystery (booklet with story & answer included), but it was a lot of fun and a stimulating picture. We enjoy these on our "snow days" and very much recommend this one!

I use short mysteries with jigsaw puzzles to teach children about thinking, writing, notetaking, and reading. The puzzle encourages them to become involved with the story on a viseraland visual level. I searched long and hard for one that did not include graphic descriptions of the mayhem committed by murderers or that was too simplistic to fully engage the kids. This Sherlock Holmes Mystery and Jigsaw fill the criteria!

My wife and I love to do puzzles together, she is amazing when it comes to puzzles and I really only help where I can, but this was a lot of fun. I love the idea of a puzzle filled with clues to help you figure out the end of the story. It also makes it a bit harder not having a picture for reference. This puzzle you have to completely put together without any idea as to what the picture will look like. It really makes this challenging which to me made it even more fun.

The story with this is the Speckled Band from the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. Being the fan I am, I had already read this story and knew how it had ended. Still, my wife had not read it and I really enjoyed watching her try to piece together each item in the picture to try to figure out the ending. The only issue I had with this was that the solution is typed backwards so you have to read it in a mirror to find out the ending. That was really tedious, so I grabbed my Kindle and pulled up the story found where it stopped and read the end to my wife to see if she figured out the story.

It is a puzzle with small pieces that bend easily so I had to rate it low for durability, but it is something I will want to put together again and again. As much fun as it is to read the story and then try to figure it out, the puzzle alone was great to put together. I would recommend this to anyone who loves a great mystery and puzzles. You will not regret the purchase.

First, I love the Mystery Puzzles - no picture of the finished puzzle is a good challenge. However, the newer Bepuzzled puzzles are not manufactured to the same standards as the old ones OR they are not stored properly. I have tried two different newer puzzles on both the pieces are so bent that you cannot keep the puzzle pieces together. They will just not lay flat. I have never had this problem with the older puzzles (made in USA).

I received this as a gift from my husband Christmas 2013. Why he thought I enjoyed jigsaw puzzles is a mystery to me. He enjoyed putting it together, and the end product was a beautiful picture with deep rich colors, patterns and textures that I plan to have framed as art for my home. Usually, puzzles come with a picture to guide you in your efforts. Not so with this one. I would love to post the picture here for anyone who would like to sneak a peek at the finished puzzle. I would recommend buying this for those who enjoy doing puzzles.

First thing's first: If you've already read the original Sherlock Holmes short story "The Adventure of the Speckled Band", then there's no mystery for you to solve in the puzzle. The booklet is just the short story lifted wholesale, with the "solution" part of the story mirrored for spoiler purposes, and the puzzle image is just an illustration of what's in the story.

If you haven't read the story, then the mystery is on the more difficult end, in my opinion, because Doyle's wording is such that it threw me off track, besides the usual oddities of the old meanings of words like "trap" for a carriage or "knocked up" for woken up. The puzzle itself was a great challenge and on par with the rest of its kind, but I found myself more annoyed than usual when I've done this kind of puzzle, because I kept trying to solve the mystery as I went and couldn't get anywhere.

I highly recommend this puzzle for the puzzle itself, with the mystery angle as just an extra treat [or not]. In the future, though, I feel I would be more inclined to get a different kind of "the puzzle does not have the same picture as the box" jigsaw, because I've just been too let down by the mystery angle to justify the extra $5-10 cost over a regular jigsaw.
