Product Description

Between 1961 and 1969 the Beach Boys made nineteen albums, including some of the best music ever recorded – and some not so good.
In this book, Andrew Hickey looks at this music track by track, analysing every song that Brian, Carl, Dennis, Mike, Al, Bruce and David recorded and released during that time period.
From early surf and car classics like 409 to sophisticated masterpieces like Time To Get Alone, in this book you’ll learn how they were recorded, why they work the way they do, and which albums to buy if you want to hear a great band at their best.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read !, May 6, 2011
This review is from: The Beach Boys On CD: Vol 1 - 1961-1969 (Kindle Edition)
Another MUST READ for any serious & scientific fan of The Boy's & Brian. Great overview for the casual and newbie fans as well. I grew up through all of this music " in real time ". This publication supplemented my education and appreciation of Brian, The Boy's and their music. Will now listen just a little bit differently with an added dimension. Thank you so much for this contribution to musical appreciation and historical archives. Love that "Pet Soundish" cover art. Look forward to Vol 2 ! Dr Ron Grassi. Chiropractic Physician. 5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, February 17, 2012
This review is from: The Beach Boys On CD: Vol 1 - 1961-1969 (Kindle Edition)
I grew up listening to my mums beach boys albums, mainly the greatest hits and it wasn't until recently that I discovered pet sounds, wild honey etc. I am now obsessed with listening and reading anything I can about this fascinating band. This is an excellent break down of the albums from the early era, I thoroughly enjoyed it and am looking forward to the next edition.

More About the Author

I write. I write two very different types of books, though mostly they're non-fiction. The first type are in-depth musical analyses of pop music. .

The other books I write (like Sci-Ence! Justice Leak!, Four Stories About The Singularity and my upcoming examination of Grant Morrison's Seven Soldiers) are about the playful exploration of ideas. They're often using criticism of comics, books or TV as a starting point, but the books are as much about the nature of consciousness, or cybernetics, or Liberal politics as they are about Batman or Doctor Who.

I recently published a very short chapbook, on Kindle only, for 99 cents, Four Stories About The Singularity. This is my first published work of fiction, and contains four short-short science fiction stories.

I'm also a member of the band The National Pep, whose two EPs can be bought from Amazon in MP3 form.
