Interesting concept, but poorly implemented,

This review is from: Beach Head 2000 (CD-ROM)
Beach Head 2000 puts you in the role of defending a beach head against an onslaught of unidentified enemies, both on foot, land and water. It's an interesting concept...I can't think of any other game quite like it. The box is very appealing and even coxed me into buying the product, even though I was well aware of Wizard Work's shaky reputation. The graphics on the back of the box are not the same as on the game. The scenery is very pixelated and dull. In general, the grpahics are very early 90's in style. The gun turrent you operate can be manipulated via keyboard, mouse or joystick. The mouse control is terrible, and there is no real way to control it. One move too quick and the whole turrent spins around. I spent more time trying to line the gun up right than I did shooting. The keyboard commands seem to stiff and non-responsive. The gameplay is very monotonous, with a constant wave of troops lands on the beach. Higher levels include helicopters and jets, but they are equally unimpressive and monotonous. The game does have a save feature, which is handy. I will give them credit for that. I gave the game two stars because it is an interesting concept, but poorly implemented. I bought the game hoping it would be a quick fix for the times I want to just blow up everything. But you'll spend more time trying to master the controls than enjoying the gameplay. With a little more work, this could have been a great game. But like the game itself, that is the most frustrating part.

Limited playability,
This review is from: Beach Head 2000 (CD-ROM)
For 20 bucks, you don't get much. Limited playablity, poor graphics, seems to cause memory errors on my machine. Bogs down when you have many opponents in play (I have a top of the line Pentium), Pretty much when you get to the higher levels, you've done it all...which you can do in one afternoon if your a shooter/player like me. Hard to fire and aim with mouse controls.......I wouldn't buy this one...wish I'd read the reviews on this one!

Sloppy, monotonous, frustrating beach head 2k.,

The game has one background where you're supposed to shell troops, tanks, helicopters and planes. The bullets are terribly rendered balls of yellowness, the graphics are amazingly slipshod, there is no music and the sound effects are very sub par. There is no option for 3d hardware support, nor is there an option for mouse sensitivity. Speaking of the sensitivity, it is way too sensitive for my liking and they have some odd system of mouse aiming. Another nice feature is that whenever you put the disc in to play, it starts installation. When gameplay starts an error message pops up for some reason, and has no effect on the game, its incredibly annoying after the umpteenth time. This game seems to be put together by a game dilettante who happens to love war movies. This apparently was a game prior to 2000 with the title sans 2000. This game is only for those who are nostalgic for the original beach head. But this still lacks features of gameplay that the original beachhead offered. I implore you to go buy other war games, there are many out there much more deserving of your money.

an enjoyable waste of time,

This game has no recognizable plot, but its very fun to play. It resembles some of the classic "shoot down an entire army with one guy" games of old. Its a nice way to waste time for a very cheap price.

Mindless fun,

I agree with most of the other reviewers. The game is fun but does get repetitive since you never leave your pill box looking over the beach. Since I bought my copy at the dollar store, I feel I got my money's worth.

A very good game for those that won't pick it apart,

Simply put: this game isn't meant for those who are used to, say, Diablo 2, Deus Ex, and other extremely deep games. This has an idea that shouldn't go over-looked: but it was designed for special little groups of war-buffs and action-game-lovers, because those are the kind of people who don't care about going through 100 levels to see if they can break their old score record. I personally enjoyed a game where it only took 5 seconds to load and then theres action right there where you can play it. A great game, for those who can appreciate mindless action of blowing enemy soldiers and tanks away.

One Fantastic Game,
By
This review is from: Beach Head 2000 (CD-ROM)
This is a fantastic game with increasingly difficult levels. It is not a simple shoot em up game but is one that takes strategy and thinking. Unlike Allied Assault or Return to Wolfenstein, one does not have to play and play and play to finally win against the computer. Thus the one thing that is positive is the controls are easily learned. There may be those who think they have to have a game in which one has to go find a "banana" or some "blue key" for it to be a good game and that is ok, but when you want something that will relieve stress rather than build stress such is the game as Beach Head 2000. The Graphics are great sure they don't change but alas the title Beach Head 2000. It is truly you against the computer and a game you can win but come back to later and lose against. It is a fun game that one can well have fun with. Well done!!!!!

ITS A GREAT GAME FOR THE FIRST 20 -30 LEVELS, BUT THE MOUSECONTROL IS TERRIBLE OR NOT AT ALL. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT KIND OF EQUIPMENT THIS WAS DESIGNED FOR THE MORE ACTION OF THE ATTACK FORCES THE SLOWER THE DEFENCE WEAPONS FIRE AT LEVEL 48 THEY ALL BUT STOP. I HAVE CALLED TECH. SUPPORT AND THAT IS LIKE TALKING TO A WALL. THE GAME IS A BUST !! SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GO TO A MOVIE

Entertaining...for a time.,

Frankly, this game lacks, alot. The graphics are fair, but repeatitive. Game play is straight forward and engaging for a while, but soon gets boring. It is a good game for releasing some tensions but that is about the limit of it's use.

I have had this game before several years ago and I like to play it when I take a break from work. Hey it may be old yet it beats the heck out of solitaire or falling blocks.
