OK CD but I bought this CD looking for the song from the trailer for this movie and it is not there. The song is "Touched" by "Vast" from their first CD "Visual Audio Sensory Theater". It took me forever to figure that out so I hope I can save you the time if you are looking.

The Beach soundtrack has a variety of music. It's dark, happy, sad, and energetic. Leftfield's "Snakeblood" starts the disc with a gloomy feel. This begins to change with the next few songs including "Pure Shores" from All Saints, Moby's emotional "Porcelain"(which is THE best) and Sugar Ray's "Spinning Away". These songs inject that sensational feeling of being on a beach....just close your eyes. Blur's "On Your Own" and "Woozy" from Faithless begin to direct the mood towards the chaotic side. Hard beats, fast, and disorienting which, in the end, leaves a sense of "panic" over you. The last song, "Beached" falls under the ambient/dance catagory. The perfect closing track. I bought this soundtrack primarily for Moby's "Porcelain" (in search of it ever since first hearing it in a commercial). I was worried about being disappointed with the remaining tracks, but the entire disc turned out to be fantastic. This is definitely recommended.

This is a lovely cd to own, one that's good for complimenting dark moods. This cd has a great mix of songs (many with thumping dance beats, for example, the song by Blur), All Saints throws in their two cents as well, and the song is surprisingly good, thankfully not reminiscent of their overplayed hit "Never Ever." Moby's song is really breathtaking and one of my favorites. Another favorite is "Yeke yeke"<--it's sung in another language and features more hard hitting dance beats. Sugar Ray's song is a great change from the normally radio friendly songs they spit out. The last few songs kind of run into eacthother but are still nice additions (here comes the really mysterious/dark/enchanting part of the cd). If you're in love with feel-good, sunshine-y songs, look elsewhere; I've not seen the movie yet, but these songs seem to really capture the spirit of the book.

Great collection of songs, with the exception of Tracks 11 (Richard, It's Business As Usual) and 14 (Beached)-they are both terrible and detract from the listening experience. Snakeblood, Yeke Yeke, and Woozy are rare gems. Does not contain the fabulous song heard in the initial teaser previews (that song is "Touched" by VAST-Visual Auditory Sensory Theater, which I highly recommend). All in all, worth purchasing and listening to repeatedly.

It took me 2 hrs to find the name of that song from the trailer that everyone seems to not be able to find. It is called Touched by VAST. But doesn't appear on the soundtrack or the original score

Trust me....it's paradise,

Anyone who has seen Danny Boyle's previous films, Trainspotting (1996) and Shallow Grave (1995), should not have been surprised at the brilliance of the soundtrack for "The Beach." Mr. Boyle and his talented music advisors stick to their big guns, namely Underworld and Leftfield, who both provide such fantastic tracks it's paralyzing. Underworld's "Ball," with its tasteful and electrifying guitar work, combined with one of the smoothest bass lines ever written, adequately conveys the stratospheric level of this compilation. For fear of sounding horribly gushy, I'll just add that the tracks by Faithless, New Order, Richard Ashcroft and All Saints (read William Orbit) surpass anything you'll find on any compilation soundtrack available today. I won't even begin to add how heaven-scent Moby's track "Porcelain" is. It is enough to say that Danny Boyle personally chose this magical bit of music for the scene when Richard (Leo) and crew view "paradise" for the first time. I've been to Ao Maya (the real beach) on Ko Phi Phi Le in Thailand and watched the sun set over the towering limestone crags. No other song better sums up the reality of that place! Do yourself a favor...get this amazing soundtrack, or at least get yourself to Thailand! Here's to the music advisory on Danny Boyle's films!!! Bravo.

Wow, this is one of the best soundtracks that have heard, since the "Pi" soundtrack. If you like techno and trance music, you will defiantly like this cd. I can understand why they didn't put "Dolphin's Cry" on the disc, but I absolutely don't understand why they didn't include "Touched" by Vast. They only used that song in all the previews! I actually assumed that it was on the cd. I was very disappointed to learn that it wasn't after I bought it. All in all though, a good cd!

The Beach for a hazy afternoon reverie,
By d_wohn (South Korea) - See all my reviews

To be a little sarcastic, this soundtrack is like a person who has a terrible coordinator. I'm not saying the songs aren't good. With top artists such as Leftfield, New Order, Orbital, and Sugar Ray, to name a few, one can't comment on the individual pieces. Maybe I'm letting my personal definition of movie soundtracks get a hold of me, but what I'm saying is that soundtracks shouldn't be compilation CDs.They should have a color of their own. The color of 'The Beach'? Well, overall, it is sort of dreamy but it's like jamming a puzzle piece into a spot that almost fits but doesn't. The individual pieces are each a vibrant color, but just like watercolors, you mix them together and all you get is a muddy concoction. Then again, maybe that was the purpose of the album. In the meantime, the great songs make the CD worth buying. Leftfield's Snakeblood starts off the album with an enchanting melody, floating on the surface of a throbbing bass. Unkle's Lonely Soul is like morphine that can really pluck your heartstrings. All Saints' Pure Shores doesn't really go with the overall 'trancy' atmosphere, but with a melody similar to Madonna's 'Beautiful Stranger' and a hip-swaying beat, not to mention those sugar-coated slurring female vocals, listening to it is like riding a yacht in the Carribbean with the ocean breeze blowing against your face. Orbital finishes off with a typical clean and crisp sound. If you feel like you need a puff of the cigarette or you just want to get 'fuzzy', then 'The Beach' is perfect for a hazy afternoon reverie. In fact, you can actually get blurry-eyed and happily obscure even without tropical sunshine or burning weed.

A good mix of techno and pop music,
By
This review is from: The Beach: Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I did not enjoy the movie "The Beach" whatsoever. It was definitely one of the most painful films I have ever had to endure. The soundtrack however is the opposite of what I thought about the film. I love techno music and especially a big fan of Faithless. I just had to hear "Woozy" from one of my favorite house bands around. Although I have heard Moby's "Porcelain" like a gazillion times on other soundtracks, commercials, and chill out compilations, surprisingly enough I still love that song. Although I pretty much can't stand the now defunct pop/r&b group All Saints, I found "Pure Shores" pretty tolerable considering that William Orbit produced the track. The same can be said about the Sugar Ray song "Spinning Away". Normally I loathe that band but "Spinning Away" is a pretty decent track coming from a band that annoys the living daylights out of me, especially with that song "Fly". I love New Order but I just could not enjoy "Brutal". The title itself is how my ears felt when I heard that song. My favorite song on the entire soundtrack has to be the gorgeous cinematic track "Beached" by Angelo Badalamenti and legendary techno act Orbital. Just a great film score. I also loved the Asian-influenced track "Return of Django" by Asian Dub Foundation and "Voices" by Dario G feat. Vanessa Quinones. While "The Beach" isn't one of my personal favorite soundtracks like "Run Lola Run", "Trainspotting", and "Crouching Tiger", I found "The Beach" very enjoyable.

this is a very good CD with some really good techno club type tracks. however, if you are buying this CD for the tracks that you heard in the movie trailer... they are not there! you are looking for touched by vast and when dolphins cry by live.
