About the Author
Gideon Bosker and
Lena Lencek specialize in popular culture and have written together or co-written more than ten books, including
Making Waves: Swimsuits and the Undressing of America; The Beach: The History of Paradise on Earth, a
New York Times Notable Book for 1998; and, most recently,
Beaches, a photographic survey of the world's most beautiful beaches. Lencek is professor of Russian and the humanities at Reed College, and Bosker, a physician, is an assistant clinical professor of medicine at Yale University School of Medicine. They live in Portland, Oregon.
