4.0 out of 5 stars Solid 2nd CD From Caron!!, January 12, 2002

This review is from: Beach of the War Goddess (Audio CD)
This IS NOT the Debut CD by Caron Wheeler!! Her 1st (& out of print) CD was 1990's 'UK Blak', but 'Beach Of The War Goddess' is a solid project with a variety of innovative producers. The 1st single from this CD was 'I Adore You' (produced by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, and originally on the 'Mo Money' soundtrack). Caron's vocals are strong, but yet subtle at the same time, and those who loved her Soul II Soul music, will enjoy this effort. This CD was not promoted properly, and that's a shame because Caron is a pioneer of the 'Neo Soul' genre of music (incl.Erykah Badu, Angie Stone, India.Arie, Jill Scott, etc.). All 'Neo Soul' Music lovers should get BOTH of Caron's solo CDs, her Soul II Soul projects, and 'Cookie-The Anthropological Mixtape' by Me'Shell NdeGeOcello (Caron sings on many of the tracks). Highly recommended tracks on 'Beach Of The War Goddess':'I Adore You', 'Soul Street', 'Lite As A Feather', 'Do You Care', 'Father', In Our Love', and MORE!

Peace, SD (of 'Chaka's World')

5.0 out of 5 stars An incredible singer matched with incredible production, March 9, 2000

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Beach of the War Goddess (Audio CD)
Former Soul II Soul songstress Caron Wheeler gives us a vastly-underrated, incredible second solo album that quietly set the standard for intellectually-minded, truly soul-searching R&B that artists like Erykah Badu, Amel Larrieux and others are mining now. Wheeler has one of the most increible voices and singing styles of any singer out today, and it's a shame more people didn't buy this record when it was out and she could have used the sales. There's a smashing ballad ("Do You Care?"), Jam&Lewis production ("I Adore You", which was the only really good song on the deplorable MO' MONEY soundtrack) and some other great, surprising gifts of vocal agility, grand production and simply good songwriting. The best R&B album you never heard.

5.0 out of 5 stars Caron...WOW!!, July 22, 2011

Caron Wheeler posseses one of the most wonderful voices of this generation. Her work is inspiring, entertaining, thought-provoking with power when called for and softness in other times. I wish her catalog was deeper and more extensive, but, her work stands the test of time. "Lite As A Feather"...sweet! Check her out. You won't be disapointed!!!

Some of the greatest artists are truly hard to find and Caron Wheeler is one of them. I was so happy to have found not only this CD but also her first UK Black on Amazon. The vendor I purchased from was very friendly and helpful and open to making sure that my shopping experience with them be a satisfied one. It was! I was very pleased with the product, shipping, the safe packaging and the customer service. The price was a big bonus as well! I will definitely purchase from this vendor again!
