I've had this 14 DVD set for 7 weeks now. If I had written a review sooner, I would have given it 3 stars because Chalene is not a consistently great cue-er and you have to do the routines about 2-3 times ("New to Class" option) to get it down, AND I had to figure out proper footwear after twisting a knee in cross trainers. That said, I give it 5 stars now because these workouts push you very hard, increase your aerobic capacity and fitness, burn a lot of calories every time, are fun to do, and I actually wake up looking forward to them.

Types of movements:
The majority of the cardio is combinations of kickboxing, learnable dance and plyometrics -- mostly high impact with a lot of landing and pivoting on the balls of your feet. There's also a lot of twisting of the upper body that puts torque on your knees unless you rotate your toes into alignment. Chalene emphasizes this a lot, but it's actually hard to do unless you have proper shoes (have I said this enough?) and keep your energy and attention up so that you do the moves correctly. There is one person, Allie (great dancer), demonstrating the low impact version. It's best to follow her when learning the routines just to be on the safe side.

All of the workouts are hard, but Fire 60, Fire 30 and all of the HIIT sessions are my favorites --they're just plain fun. With the HIITs, you just jump right in; there's no "New to Class" version because the choreography is easy. After doing HIITs, I found my aerobic capacity and lactic acid threshold increased quite noticeably. When I did the very demanding plyometrics workout from my
P90X, I performed MUCH better.

I'm a Turbo junkie but when I saw the informercial for Turbo Fire, I was a bit intimidated. I blasted out my knee when I was a kid and still feel the effects at times. I was able to follow (and for some moves, make my own) modifications with the original Turbo Jam. Even so, I only bought a single Fire class (55 EZ) on Ebay just to give it a try. My initial reaction was pretty much the same as when I first started TJ, I tossed it to the side and thought that it just wasn't for me. But I gave it another chance, and another, and another and that single class turned out to be nothing more than a tease. I broke down and bought the whole set.

HEADS UP, BEGINNERS TO TURBO!!: If you are unfamiliar with Chalene's style, you might get a little frustrated. You have to learn the moves first! With this set, there are "New to Class" options that serves as a tutorial for some of the moves but there are no break downs during the actual workouts. You just jump in and go, go, go. Also, Chalene's cueing takes some getting used to (although it has improved a bit with this set).

HEADS UP, BEGINNERS TO FITNESS!!: DON'T! JUST DON'T!! Start with TJ Learn and Burn.

"Beginners with Determination", Intermediates (that's me), and those with knee problems (me again!--check with your doctor, of course), follow the super cute Alee for modifications. No worries, you will still get a major workout! Everyone else, just go for what you know. ;-D

Ok, now that my little "FBI" warning it out of the way, here's the cream:

Turbo in a combination of kickboxing and dance. For those who are familiar with Turbo Jam, TF is basically TJ on crack. The Fire classes (2 DVDs) are faster paced TJ workouts with a couple of Fire Drills (or 1 min HIITs) thrown in.

I am a big beachbody product fan and so far P90X and Insanity are by far the best they have in their repertoire. I ordered Turbo Fire to add variety to my workout. I am an athlete and workout 6 times a week; I got a bit frustrated with the workouts because I was spending more time figuring out the routine and remembering them then actually working out. If you have knee problems, it puts some strains on your knee. The warm up to me starts to fast as a warm up. The program is very repetitive the 45 minutes workouts are just a little different from 30 minutes workout (only added a few routines).
Again I couldn't really focus on the workout, because even when I watch the DVD entirely the day before I actually do the workout, I was losing focus trying to remember the routines or follow them.
In conclusion, if you are a beginner, love music and need something to get you going and you are not used to doing High Intensity Interval Training at all, this is for you. If you are already advanced, you have done P90X or Insanity and you are already in great shape, getting this program is like taking 3 steps back.
It is a little bit of a hype and quite overpriced. Insanity is 10 times better and targets the different body parts more, they gradually increase speed during warm up and do a complete stretching of your legs before getting into the workout which is great if you have knee problems. Last thing if you are familiar with Billy Blanks Taebo ( I am a certified Taebo Instructor) the kickboxing moves in Turbo Fire and very similar to Billy's. Get the Taebo DVD's instead because Billy explains how to do the kicks with proper techniques and that will reduce risk of injuries. Billy also does great warm-up and stretching before getting into it. P90X the same about warm up section.

I am returning the package because it is too slow for me and after seeing the workouts, it is too expensive. I would pay half the price for it.
